Throw Out 50 things

Jan 03, 2012 10:24

As I head towards taking down the Xmas tree this weekend (I tend to like to leave it up 'til Epiphany.) I heard a blurb on NPR about the book, "Throw Out 50 Things".

It's one of those motivational/cleaning books that I have no intention of reading because I find many pop culture "self-help" books to be platitudes or fairly mindless or say everything they need to in the title.

This seems to me to say everything I need to know in the title. Throw 50 thing out; I can do that. I know I've got 50 books that I can pass on to someone, somewhere. I'm certain they're are 50 bits of clothing I can pass along as well, even if they are nothing more than 50 singleton socks! ;-p And there are probably 50 bits of kitcheny stuff that can get chucked as well.

The kidlet can easily get rid of 50 toys she no longer plays with. (Her closet is exactly what you'd expect from a near pre-teen. ;-p)

So, I'm adding another resolution towards the ongoing goal of general de-cluttering: Get rid of 50 things. Start with books first as they're the easiest to get to, then either tackle clothes of kitchen stuff. Maybe even try for 50 things each month from a different corner of the house. 50 things from the basement, 50 things from under the deck (soon, to avoid yellow jackets; hmmm...can I remove 50 yellow jackets? ;-p), weed out 50 bits of craft stuff I no longer want/need, etc.

I'll keep you updated on the process!
