Been a while since I last posted. Not really a lot going on. Work is still cool. House is still cool. Car is still cool. Nothing major going on. Went to WAR. It was wet and cold but it was still nice to relax.
I guess you could say WAR was a catalyst for how I am feeling right now. I want to sew. It seems the only conversations I have been having lately are about sewing. It’s becoming an obsession. I love seeing all the pretty things that other people have made themselves and I know I can do the same thing. I just need to take the time to do it. And take the time to get the resources I need together.
So, after lots of thinking and talking to Teri a LOT…I’m going to buy myself my very own sewing machine. One that isn’t uber old and tempermental like my grandmother’s and one I am not afraid of breaking like every single one of my friends’. Sure, I will still be afraid of breaking it but it’s different when it’s your stuff you have broken. Anyway, I am buying a machine and making a corset. Woot! So excited. It’s all I can think about.
The hard part so far seems to be finding a Victorian pattern that can be modified to fit my body. I found an elizabethian pattern generator that you just plug your measurements into and it shows you step by step how to draw out the pattern. But I want a Victorian style one that will have that hourglassy look to it. I’ll probably make both kinds eventually.
Anyway, I have found several places online that sell steel boning that isn’t pre-cut. So I can cut it to my own specifications. But I have no idea what a busk is. That word comes up a lot and I think it is like the front panel that holds everything in but I always thought that was just boning. I don’t know, Kristina confused.
On the plus side, Brandy said she is willing to help draft out a pattern because apparently she loves to drape and the bodice pattern she made me is totally fab. I’m going to put boning in the bodices lizzy made me so they don’t bulge too much anymore. And I know that if she has the time, Teri will help me out a bit too. I really want to try to make this on my own because it is all apart of a bigger picture. Which is to make a Lulu costume for next year’s ComicCon.
