who's the baddest witch in town? | tv talk

a. i am eating raspberry and white chocolate icecream rn and it is SO GREAT. /end food brag

b. i will be totally & forever crushed if the mindy project gets cancelled before danny and mindy lock lips. there should be some justice in the world, all i'm saying.

c. american horror story: coven is to me what the walking dead is to some other people. they'll keep watching through all sorts of shit because zombies! i've suffered through vampires, zombies and goddamn werewolves. FINALLY, we're getting some witches up in here. i am HERE for this to be the new YA/hollywood/tv thing. (i'm also watching the rather more mediocre witches of east end but hey, at least there's less 'do you not understand i don't care about racists!?' moments) i am ready for the tidal wave of teen witches!!! witches in covens!!! witches living alone in apartments with a cat!!! witches going to work for hex companies every morning on the train!!! witches who grow their own poisons in bright little window boxes!!!! witches conducting rituals in empty libraries and school halls!!! GIVE IT TO ME!!!!

that said, i wish ahs: coven would stop trying to make me care about cordelia's husband (thankfully no more) and goddamn madame lalourie (or w/e). she's a racist! a terrible murdering psychopathic abusive piece of trash! I DON'T CARE ABOUT HER AT ALL. and if queenie doesn't reappear much like madison i will freaking claw my own face off. the show could not be more transparent about not understanding WOC narratives and keeps freaking prioritizing white goddamn characters. also biblethumper mom and son! don't care! would like nan to get some but no one needs to spend this much time on her boytoy's dead dad! goddamn. the last scene where hank shoots up the salon would have been way more effective if i gave a shit about him, but also if i even knew who was working there the same way i know the coven. /sigh

that said, i am really into how the show is not afraid to make even "nice" characters expose their darker sides. both cordelia and zoe became 100% cooler the minute they started to really touch on the darker sides of their powers and knowledge. i like that the show doesn't differentiate between good magic/bad magic or dark/light witches. all of them have powers that can be very dark, or used to cause pain and death. but at the same time they can also be used to heal, or help. it's really a matter of intention and context, and sometimes doing something good requires a lot of dark stuff. i am also 10000% here for petty squabbling between coven members (as delightful as it is) being swept aside to bring down some douchebag patriarchal brotherhood of witch hunters. (why do all men in witch narratives suck balls? i would like some witch groupies plz and thank you.)
