Good Trade
Every day, he misses her.
He looks up to expect to see her there, and breifly wonders where she went.
He stills his mind, and waits to hear her voice.
He does something wrong, and expects her to gently chide him.
He's lost her, misplaced her, she's never in the places he looks.
He sees her everywhere, but when he goes to get a closer look, either she's not there, or he isn't allowed to look. Definately not allowed to touch. This one's not his Zhaan. She's somebody else's.
And when the most likely place goes missing herself, in the most likely place, he goes to get her back. But he's not allowed. Not allowed. Never allowed. John is gone, but she's still John's Zhaan.
And finally, he hears her voice. His Zhaan.
And he gives up everything he has to to find her. Because he doesn't need anything else. And maybe he's not her John, but she will be allowed to touch. John and his Zhaan were always more favoured than he and his Zhaan. Some nameless force watched out for them, turned things in thier favour. Maybe even Khaleen.
So he leaves everything behind. Friends, family, home, and love that will never be. Not for him. In the name of love that might be. For her, if not for him. It's what his Zhaan would do.
His first day after Talyn leaves, someone looks at him and gapes "You're missing your mask, Stykera!"
"My mask isn't what I'm missing," he replies.

Fifteen minutes on the nose again. And... well, that was interesting. I suppose this is my take on
astrogirl2's "A Consummation Devotely Wished" by way of my feelings on Stark/Aeryn, with just a hint of Ben's take on the sacrifices made that he explored in John Qixote. (Fave Episode, much?)
And yes, the narration's disjointed, and the pronouns are confusing, but everytime I tried to change it I got bitched out by the Phantom of the UT that lives in my head.
It's Stark, folks. Guess it's not supposed to be cohearent.
