As promised, more Cissie! ;)
When last we saw Cissie, she was trying out for the US Archery team. Guess what? She made it! And tells her friends, who are happy for her:
(I love the top panel of that page--Tim, you are so cute and short. Also... yeah, I just love that whole page.)
Cissie is a wonderful person, but she does have a temper on occasion and may not be the most *patient* of people. ;)
Right. Not letting anything bother you, huh Ciss? ;)
But of course, do things go smoothly for our heroine? No. Cissie is not, in fact, expected to win the gold medal--and the girl who is? Is attacked in a manner quite similar to Nancy Kerrigan was, so that she cannot compete. And who gets the blame?
Bonnie King-Jones.
The Olympic committee decides that Cissie can not compete until her mother is cleared of charges. Bonnie did not do it--and is shocked that Cissie seems to believe that she might have.
Cissie does not pull the emotional punches, folks. (Also, I find it interesting and fun to note that the two people with Cissie and her mother are Cassie--Cissie's best friend--and Tim. In disguise. And it kind of looks like Bonnie and Tim are glaring at each other or something, which doesn't make too much sense, but it's *interesting.*)
And we realize that Cissie is still carrying guilt over nearly killing that murderer. (I like this, actually. It makes sense that this would still bother her.)
Tim saves the day with his brain, yet again. (Although I kind of want to smack the writer there--Cissie is not Arrowette anymore, and Tim of all people is pretty anal about using the right names at the right times.) And as it turns out, Cissie's teammate is deaf, and reads lips!
Long story short, Bonnie is cleared of all charges, except for being a loud-mouthed, overprotective mother. ;)
Cissie and her mother have an overdue heart-to-heart.
I... really love those pages. Bonnie will never win a Mother-Of-The-Year award, and Cissie might have a good deal of resentment towards her, but--she is her mother. This doesn't fix everything, not by a long shot, but it's a good start toward the two of them having a semi-healthy relationship.
And so, let the games begin--but first, a bit of conflict with another team:
So, since Cissie quit as Arrowette, a new heroine has appeared to help out Young Justice on occassion--Empress. The team talks about Empress while watching Cissie compete.
(It's entirely possible that this page has not so much to do with Cissie, and I may be including it entirely for the Tim-factor. Because Tim Drake is also made of win. ::shifty eyes:: And he recognizes Cissie's body language.)
Also, Tim's long, complicated investigative process? It would be more complicated if Empress' father didn't decide to sit with them. ;) Which is how they discover that Empress is in fact Anita Fite. But while they are discussing this turn of events, Cissie's competition starts!
Did you think an Olympic competition would be safe? Clearly you don't read comics. ;)
But it's the *original* Miss Arrowette to the rescue! Bonnie saves the day.
No one messes with *her* kid. (Except for her.)
To make a long story short--Cissie kicks some major ass.
Wooo, Cissie won the gold medal!! Three cheers for Cissie! Her schoolmates agree.
Red Tornado is, in fact, the adult "supervisor" for Young Justice. He also happens to have a genius of an adopted daughter. Cissie isn't technically supposed to know Red Tornado, after all, so the way they cover that is amusing. Also, the whole thing is just sweet:
::squish::
So! Does Cissie care about being popular and being friends with the "cool" kids?
No. No, she does not.
Is Cissie a good surrogate big sister?
Yes. Yes, she is.
Is Traya herself also awesome and made of win?
Yes, yes she is.
Cissie totally still watches cartoons when she can. ;)
And... Cissie's fanmail:
Her fanmail is lethal!
...Okay, not really.
We find out that Cissie's fanmail did *not* eat her.
Next time, Cissie joins Young Justice as they play baseball with aliens to save the planet--and is jealous of Empress, and gets an agent.
