EVERY year since I was 17, I read The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. I have a schedule of reading that I hate to break because I read these over and over for pleasure. I try to "savor" the story. I try to keep to the schedule so I am not rushing through any of the books.
FOR ANYONE WHO DOESN'T KNOW: On the first day of summer, I start The Hobbit; to be finished in those few days of June so I can start The Fellowship on the first of July, The Two Towers on the first of August and The Return of the King on the first of September.......AND THEN there is Hobbit cake and ale when I finish the story on the first day of autumn for the hobbits birthday. (ALSO, this year I promised to sit and watch the extended version of the movies when I am done with the books!)
WELL, due to the surprise trip to Pennsic, sewing projects and much distraction from other books (I HAD TO FORCE MYSELF TO PUT DOWN THE HISTORY BOOK THAT WAS PURCHASED AT PENNSIC!) I have been slightly behind in the reading.
BUT as of last night, I caught up to the place that I usually break before I finish The Two Towers (yes, I have a SERIOUS reading schedule for these stories!) so tonight, I will be able to tuck myself in when John leaves for work and finish the last chapter at my leisure------the best spider story ever!. The Return of the King is already at my bedside just in case I have vision and will to start the next part.
I have had some real stupid interruptions and setbacks this week--emergency costume for a nephew that has taken up LARPing (too cool--will have to get him to SL soon!) and SERIOUS money issues. I am not as far in the sewing as I wanted to be and today I am waiting on a pick-up for an item I am selling on craigslist AND I need to take Jacob to pick up his glasses so he can have them for school pictures tomorrow. He also needs a hair cut. I wish I could afford to have it done for the pictures. Poor kid, he is stuck with mom's work again. Oh well, there has never been an extended time in my life that I wasn't pinching pennies so I know how to do it.
Jacob needs a couple pairs of jeans which we will get at the thrift store and new shoes & socks to start with. He's got this HUGE list of school supplies that I am just PISSED off that the school requires AND he needs REAL drumsticks for band. I am trying to sell the trombone now that he got into percussion like he wanted in the first place, but no luck there. THAT would help immensely right now.
Hopefully, Johanna is getting her internet in today at the new place. I'm thinking Jessalin, John and I will go down and help her pack tomorrow if everything works out.
I have totally given up looking for a job. I am not walking to work. If I can't make money sewing at home, selling my stuff etc. we will either have to do without winter utilities or giftmas.
Right now, I am concentrating on getting a birthday, an SCA event that I am merchanting, and a wedding behind me. After that.........who knows?
I'm tired of making plans that don't work out. I think I'll just STOP making them for a while and see what happens..........or doesn't happen.
I heard no crickets last night because it was so cold. THAT, to me, is one of the saddest signs that summer is almost over.
AUGUST, for a few more hours...........
