The First Flight of the New Airbus A380
Airbus' 21st century flagship introduces a new era of airline transportation, carrying 555 passengers aboard the most advanced, spacious and efficient aircraft ever conceived.
The world's first true double-deck jetliner, the A380 will have a maximum takeoff weight of 590 metric tonnes (1,300,000 lb.) and a range of 15,000 km/8,000 nm. The Airbus A380 is a double-deck, four-engined airliner manufactured by EADS (Airbus S.A.S.). It is the largest passenger airliner in the world. It first flew on 27 April 2005 from Toulouse, France. Commercial flights are scheduled to begin in late 2007 after lengthy delays. During much of its development phase, the aircraft was known as the Airbus A3XX. The nickname Superjumbo has become associated with the A380.
With versatile cabins on both main decks, the A380 offers more space to passengers of first, business, as well as economy class, along with wider seats and aisles.
Since the first airport tests with the A380 in Frankfurt in 2005, the A380 has visited over 40 airports, and by 2011 more than 70 airports around the world will be ready for A380 operations.
