Yes, kind of an odd combo there, but that's the topic of my post, so there you have it. Onward!
Tonight is the Academy Awards, and usually I do an Oscar Night party, but as with other events since the onset of my "delicate condition", I'm doing things low key this year. In fact, it's really going to be just my family joining me to watch the show, but they're fun company and I don't have to worry as much about being the ideal hostess with them. Alas, I did not get to watch as many of the nominated movies as I would have liked (I'm still interested in seeing Slumdog Millionaire after the awards are given out). But I did see Frost/Nixon, The Visitor, Changeling, WALL-E, Kung Fu Panda and Presto, so there are various categories that I have at least some comment about. And let's face it, I really like to see what outfits people wear on the red carpet. I'm such a clothing geek!
And then there's been my Week Of No Sugar & Carbs, in order to get myself ready for the glucose retesting that I undergo tomorrow morning. It's honestly not been as bad as I thought it might be, but truly, I can't say that I like it bunches either. Salads are not as bad as they could be, and I have to admit that the "Scorch Salad" (featuring grilled mahi over salady stuff) that I had at Ray's Steel City Saloon last Friday was very yummy. In any case [I need to wrap up, because the family just arrived!], please send prayers, good wishes and crossed lucky fingers in my direction, because I want the testing to show that my sugar levels are at a safe place tomorrow morning. Thanks for all of your support this last week and in the future!
[EDT] Now that the Oscars are over, I can announce the winners of our family award-picking challenge. No big surprise here -- my brother John guessed 13 awards correctly, the best score of the night. My mother had the next highest score (7 awards chosen), while my father & Peire each guessed 5 correctly. Alas, I take home the Mike Tamayo Memorial Award for the least correct number of Oscars picked -- I only correctly identified three winners. Interestingly, though...Dad actually had the highest percentage of correct answers guessed; he only made predictions in 8 categories, and 5 of those turned out to be the winning films. So go Dad!
