When I woke up this morning and looked at the weather report for the day's temperatures, I shuddered and wanted to go back to bed. It was going to be COLD. But no, I am a good worker, so out of bed I got, into clothes, put on my hat, scarf, coat, boots and gloves, and off to Mission San Luis I went. Once there, I piled on as many layers of historical attire as possible (key materials in my ensemble: wool, silk and linen. Mmmmm!), and headed outside.
And wouldn't you know it, it turned into a really lovely day. Clear blue sky, contrasting with vivid green grass...we built a fire out in my Spanish House's kitchen area, and then on spontaneous whim decided to see what kind of food we could generate out of the ingredients on hand. As that got going, one of my coworkers decided to run over to the supermarket across the street (in Spanish historical clothing! It's a marketing ploy to generate local interest in our site!) and pick up some more ingredients to add to the mix.
What we got in the end was some really yummy arroz con pollo and Mexican-style hot chocolatl (with cinnamon, chili powder & hickory nut oil in it, amongst other things!). We also noshed on clementine sections, Havarti cheese and dark chocolate.
Several guests toured the site during the day, frequently joining us to sit around the fire before they continued onward, and a fine time was had by all. If all my chilly days at work go like this one, I'll not fear cold weather again!
