My latest writing project is a bit of a "life of an inanimate object". It was originally intended to be quite lighthearted, but the more I've thought about it, the harder it becomes to write. In our throwaway culture, the likely life of an ordinary object is actually quite sad. How can it have a happy ending? Well, it's going to have one, and I know what it is, but it's quite remarkable (and depressing) how much of an unbelievable, unlikely scenario it has to be.
