Not All Spam is Created Equal

Aug 15, 2008 07:26

This is a public service announcement for those of you who have Yahoo accounts. This is probably applicable to other email services as well. Check your Spam folders regularly before just automatically deleting everything that is in there. These Spam filters are not perfect systems and sometimes personal emails that you’d really like to get end up in there. Once you either delete the Spam in the folder or you let them sit there long enough so that the system automatically deletes the messages, they are gone forever. You can’t get them back. Now, I know that 96 out of 100 times, all these Spam messages are just garbage, but every now and then, a message from a new contact or family member who is using an email address that is not in your contact list (address book) will get routed into the Spam folder.

A word to the wise: check the Spam (or Junk or Bulk folders - whatever your system calls these things)  before just deleting.

Add folks to your Contacts/Address Book  to prevent mail from being routed to the Spam folder.

Thank you.

P.S. I would have deleted a message from my cousin in Pennsylvania this morning whom I haven’t heard from in years if I didn’t routinely check the Yahoo Spam folder everyday before deleting the contents. Her email to me was in there.
