The master to-do list for vacation week:
  1. Watch Roland Garros.
  2. Sleep in.
  3. Start rereading ALL the Harry Potter books.
  4. Organize the storage closet.
  5. Watch Roland Garros.
  6. Start regular workouts and yoga
  7. Burn dvds - I want the hard drive cleared off the DVR
  8. See Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End and Oceans 13
  9. Work on alternate LJ
  10. Watch Roland Garros

The weather in Paris has been rather temperamental during this first week of the French Open. The rain out of the first day provided the opportunity for a repeat broadcast of last year’s amazing men’s final between Roger and Rafa. I believe that was the actual match that made me think ‘oh hey, wait, this Rafael Nadal guy isn’t really that bad’ *headdesk* and saw my devout allegiance to Rogelio started to waiver. I forgot how incredibly powerful these two men are when they want to be. The 07 Monte-Carlo and Hamburg finals paled in comparison to that classic final of last year. Hopefully the first day of Wimbledon will be a rain out as well so they can rebroadcast the 06 final. Back to 007, it is amazing how quickly some of the seeds are dropping. Blake and Roddick were both out in the first round but what do you expect from the Americans on clay court. They should just take extended vacations until the grass and hard court seasons start. Gonzalez losing in the first round was a surprise. F-Lo losing in the first round was not a surprise. I’m just thankful he was there (and still playing in doubles, I might add!!!) Gasquet was gone in the second round…so much for the great French hope. Roger and Rafa are easily through to round three(although I truly had expected Del Potro to give Rafa a bit more of a challenge than he did). I don’t see either of them having too much difficulty in their third rounds. Hopefully Youzhny will defeat Ferraro to face Federer in the fourth round. Federer would walk all over Ferraro…at least Youzhny might give Rogelio a run for the money. Rafa will likely face Hewitt in the fourth round. Urgh…Hewitt gave him such difficulty in Hamburg. Then again it took him five long sets to beat Gaudio in the second round and he still has to defeat Nieminen to get to Rafa. In the quarter final, Fed has the potential to face Volandri, Ljubicic or Robredo (hopefully one of the first two) and Rafa basically faces Moya or an unseeded player. I won’t even bother thinking past the quarters at this point. The good news is that the next time I watch tennis live it will be in HD. Let’s just hope the matches are worth watching!!! On the ladies side, Shahar Peer (my current fave) is through to the next round. Truth is, I can’t get into Women’s tennis. It’s not that I don’t like it, it’s just that the events are never given any air time in Canada. The only women’s tennis that is broadcast in Toronto is during the four Grand Slams and usually only the top five seeds receive any coverage. The only other WTA event that gets covered is the Rogers Cup just because it happens to be in Canada. Truly it is a shame. I can’t believe the WTA doesn’t become more proactive about this dilemma. Enough on tennis for now…definitely more to follow.

Did I mention I am sick? That’s right. A little cold. Caught it from niviene. The minute her sore throat started, I began taking Echinacea which has helped immensely. I still have the cold but it is not as intense as normal. I took Dristan yesterday but that was it. In fact, I think it is already going away. I wish all colds were that simple.

I recently heard the news that Sam the Record Man is closing. This information is so disheartening. Sam’s was one of “the” stores when I was growing up. It’s where I purchased my first 45 and where I lined up for concert tickets way back in the days before cds and on line ticket sales existed.  A petition has been started to keep the giant Sam the Record Man sign standing and declare the site a heritage location. I’m certain there will be more than ample support for this cause. I know it is somewhat old and dated but it just won’t be the same without Sam’s.

I have to wrap up a few things around work before I leave tomorrow so I best be doing that right now. I have to leave early today…need to be home by 5:00 for a delivery. Adios!!
P.S. Yes I am using a new LJ layout  shamelessly in honour of the French Open. I'll have to work on something for the interim to tide me over until Wimbledon!!
