I've always loved celebrating the Fourth of July, but this year nobody bought any fireworks because we were all too ( Read more... )

Oh, Maria. *pets your head* A zillion reasons. One of the main ones being that the venue that you want is never open that soon, you have to order the dress and have alterations, the same for the tux, and bridesmaids' dresses, which is all after you've finally found the one/the styles you like, and you have to figure out the food, and the music, and for some of that you definitely go to another event they do to see how much you really like them, you have to find a photographer, you have to decide on decorations, if you get married in a/the church there are a required number of sessions that you go to with the minister/priest, and you have to compose a guest list, decide who your "must invites" are, give them plenty of time to respond, then if they say no, send more invitations to your "want to invites" and along with that, stuffing invitiations is a pain.

So. Sure. Some of it's overkill, but some of it's actually stuff you have no control over, because they're required hoops/time requirements for certain venues, etc. Of course, I also come from a very large family, where everyone is invited, and everyone comes. And it's fun. You're throwing the coolest party ever, basically, and it gets to be all about you and the person you love. (Of course, we're perfectionist-like people, and there are some large opinions, and family issues that also get to get worked around, so that plays into it too)

Anywho - I'm super glad that it went smoothly and you had a good time and I assume your sister is happy, and yay. :D

And good. No drunken toasts from you.
