universe masterpost Taeyeon makes Seohyun wait two weeks to contact Sunny again-"You don't want to appear too eager," she warns, "she might start wondering why you're so desperate to talk to her." So Seohyun waits and twiddles her thumbs like a good girl, only ever replying to the infrequent texts that Sunny sends her; and then, precisely fifteen days after their last meeting, she calls Sunny.
"Seohyun!" She sounds pleased, but not surprised. "How are you?"
"I'm well, thank you." Seohyun fiddles with the strap of her cellphone. "And you?"
"Still dead," Sunny says cheerfully. "I'm assuming that's what you want to talk to me about."
Seohyun clears her throat, a little sheepish. "Well…yes."
"Aha. My psychic skills are increasing with age."
Seohyun's eyes widen and she reaches for a piece of paper. "You have psychic powers?"
Sunny laughs. "It was a joke."
"Oh." Seohyun feels her face go hot. "I'm sorry, I didn't-"
"Don't apologize, I was just messing with you." There's a rustling sound from the other end of the line. "Anyway. 10 o'clock, same place?"
"Um, yes. I mean, unless you'd like to do something different...?"
Seohyun can practically hear Sunny's face split into a grin. "Why, do you have something in mind?"
"N-no, I just-" Seohyun cuts herself off, pausing for a moment to collect her thoughts. "I just want to make sure that you're satisfied with our arrangement."
Sunny lets out a low chuckles. "Don't worry, sweetheart. You'll know if I'm not happy."
"Great," Seohyun squeaks, and winces at how her voice sounds. "I'll see you tonight then."
"Ta-ta."
Sunny insists on buying her a cocktail this time, something so sweetly syrupy that Seohyun can hardly taste the alcohol. She only has one but it's enough to make her bold. She even dares a question about whether vampires have 'types' in victims, if Sunny prefers men or blondes or people who are taller than she is. Sunny answers with grace and not a small amount of amusement ("I like women because they tend to taste more bitter, like red wine for a human," she says, "but I don't care about hair color-it's all artificial now anyway-and height doesn't make a difference either").
"What did it feel like?" Seohyun asks. "Being bitten, I mean."
Sunny shrugs. "It's been a long time."
"You have to remember something," Seohyun presses. "That can't be the sort of thing you forget easily."
Sunny's smile spreads slow and dangerous across her face. "Want to find out for yourself?"
Seohyun can feel her heart pulsing, pumping blood through her veins as Sunny's eyes roll over the length of her neck. She licks her lips and tips her head back a little, watching how Sunny's eyes go even blacker.
"Yes," Seohyun whispers. "I do."
Sunny moves over to sit next to her, and Seohyun shivers when a cold hand brushes her hair back from her ear. "Lay back." Seohyun obeys, sinking into the seat and tilting her head the way Sunny's fingers direct. "Do you want me to glamour you?" Sunny asks, her voice low and quiet, almost soothing. "It's painful if you're fully conscious."
Seohyun's heart is pounding in her ears, but she shakes her head. "I want to-I'm going to write about this, in my article. So I should experience the full thing."
"Your choice." Seohyun shivers when she hears Sunny's fangs slide out, the quiet hiss of bone against flesh only a breath from her ear. "Ready?"
Seohyun suddenly turns to her, hoping she doesn't look as frightened as she thinks she probably does. "You won't drain me, right? I mean, you'll be able to-to stop."
"I've had five hundred years to perfect my technique," Sunny murmurs. Seohyun thinks she sounds a little amused. "You'll be fine, I promise."
Seohyun swallows hard and nods. "Okay. Okay."
"Good." Sunny's arm slides over her waist, pressing her back against the seat. "Just relax." Seohyun closes her eyes and takes a deep breath-
-and barely manages to keep from screaming when Sunny bites down. Her eyes fly open and her lips draw back in a silent cry as Sunny's fangs slice through skin and muscle and the wall of her artery. She can't quite hold back a sob when she feels something warm and wet trickle down her shoulder, and Sunny shifts her hold on Seohyun, pulls her closer. Seohyun squeezes her eyes shut again. It doesn't take long for the pain to fade into a dulled ache, and Seohyun tries to will herself into imagining it as having blood drawn for a donation. Sunny's hand is on her waist, almost like a lover, her tongue gentle when she laps at Seohyun's skin.
It seems like an eternity before the suction finally stops and Sunny pulls away. The sensation of her fangs pulling out is more uncomfortable than painful, but a sharp throbbing starts once Sunny's mouth is completely gone from her neck. Seohyun feels dizzy and light-headed, thankful for the way Sunny eases her back into the cushions. "How are you feeling?"
"Floaty," Seohyun says, then coughs. "Could you, um-my throat is really dry." Sunny leans towards the table for a moment and returns with a glass of water. Seohyun drinks gratefully, and when she puts the glass down she realizes that Sunny's watching her. "What?"
"Nothing." Sunny shakes her head. "How did you get here?"
"My car."
Sunny purses her lips, looking displeased. "You okay to drive?"
"Yeah, yeah, I think-I should be." Seohyun slips her purse onto her shoulder and slides out of the booth. She turns to face Sunny and says, "I really appreciate everything you've done for me," before her knees give out. Sunny manages to catch her-She really is fast, Seohyun thinks distantly-and pulls her back into the booth.
"Here, drink some more water." Sunny pushes Seohyun's bangs back from her face and clicks her tongue. "You're in no shape to be on the road." She holds out her hand. "Give me your keys."
Seohyun blinks. "What? Oh, no, no, I couldn't possibly ask you to-"
"Give me," Sunny repeats, "your keys." There's a steely edge to her voice that has Seohyun reaching for her bag almost unconsciously. Once Seohyun's car keys are in Sunny's hand, she smiles and loops an arm around Seohyun's waist, leading her out of the bar and into the parking lot. "How far away is your house from here?"
"Um, it's about.…" Seohyun shakes her head, trying to think through the haze that fills her mind. "Half an hour? Oh, that's my car right there."
Sunny helps her into the passenger seat before taking the driver's side herself. Seohyun puts her address into the GPS and then sits back while Sunny starts the car. She spends most of the ride watching the streetlights fly past her window in an effort not to fall asleep, although she thinks she might have dozed off a few times. Eventually, they pull up outside her apartment building and Sunny shakes her gently. "Seohyun-ah," she murmurs, "you okay?"
"Yeah, just…." Seohyun's hand goes to her mouth as she yawns so wide her jaw cracks. "Mm, just tired."
Sunny laughs. "I'll help you get there."
"No, I'm okay, really," Seohyun protests even as she struggles not to yawn again.
"I don't want to hear it," Sunny says sternly, but there's a twinkle in her eye. "Come on, you know I won't be able to enter if you don't want me to."
"…Fine," Seohyun sighs. She lets Sunny guide her into the elevator and when they get off on the third floor, Seohyun points to her door. Sunny helps hold her up while she fumbles with her keys and eventually manages to get the door open. She steps over the threshold and turns back to face Sunny, curiosity getting the better of her. "So you really can't come in unless I invite you?"
Sunny holds her hand up to the air. Sunny watches the skin on her palm turn an even paler white, as if she were pressing it against a glass wall. "I really can't."
"Interesting," Seohyun murmurs, half to herself. A thought strikes her, and her eyes widen. "Wait, dawn is in an hour, isn't it? Can you get home by then?"
Sunny laughs. "Vampires can take taxis, too, you know." Her expression is almost fond when she grins at Seohyun. "Don't worry about me."
"If you say so." Seohyun feels so exhausted that she's a little worried she might fall asleep right here, leaning against the doorway.
"I do." Sunny smiles at her, lips parting to reveal sharp teeth. "But you could always invite me in."
Seohyun starts and forces herself to stand up straight. She should know better than to let her guard down just because she's a little tired. "I don't think that's a good idea."
"No?" Sunny smirks. "In any case, feel free to give me a call the next time you…want anything." She looks Seohyun up and down. "And you really do need to go to sleep. The first time being bled is always the hardest, and you, Miss Special Snowflake, did it unglamoured." She looks back up at Seohyun and winks. "See you around."
And then she's gone and Seohyun's heart is pounding as strongly as it was was in the bar.
