SPOILER ALERT FOR HARRY POTTER & THE DEATHLY HALLOWS!
I don't think I could handle anymore goodbyes, first Veronica Mars, now Harry Potter? Ridiculous as it may seem, it really is hard. I knew the end would eventually come for this. After the final words "All is well..", I got this sinking feeling at the pit of my stomach, and just laid down on my bed, staring blankly as I let it all in. Maybe that had been the reason why I had opted to delay my purchase of the 7th book, the satisfaction that I could still have these lingering thoughts of how it would all come down to.
How do I say this? The book is perfect. It wasn't like one of the previous books where certain scenes had been dragged out a bit too much and I had ended up asleep on my mom's office table, my neck awkwardly positioned. Everytime I continued reading, the room had to be dead silent, and I had to be comfortably perched on my bed. No distractions whatsoever. I didn't want it to end. From the very beginning up until the very end, every chapter just hit me with a loud 'bang!'. I wouldn't have been surprised if there had been an actual marching band circling around my room everytime a certain scene blew me away.
There's just so much about the book that I love.
There were countless scenes where I just had to close the book for a moment, and digest the newly read information out of utter shock or giddiness. Along with everyone, I had been on the verge of tears so many times up to the point I couldn't remember in which scene I had actually cried. Sure, those numerous deaths had made my heart feel heavier than it already was but what had trampled me most were the symbolisms of these deaths, what these deaths meant to Harry, Hermione, Ron, Teddy and the rest of the characters. I mean, come on, most of them are barely legal to even be drinking, much less having to be grief stricken for the rest of their lives.
With only around a hundred pages left, there was still no sign of Snape vindicating himself - I really was losing hope. But then the last chapter of 'The Elder Wand' gave it away, I felt my heart was being weighed down at Snape's final quivering breaths. 'The Prince's Tale' was an unexpected, but bittersweet chapter. Dark Arts hovered his wrongly led beliefs, which eventually scared away the only person he ever loved. I wanted to bawl at the thought that after all these years, Snape still held an undying torch for Lily. Everytime he'd reprimand Harry, he'd have to look into Harry's piercing green eyes which were a constant reminder of Lily's.
On the upside, I'm so proud of the fact that Harry never even attempted the Killing Curse to finish 'He who must not be named'. No matter how dark the books have escalated to, it all comes down to forgiveness and morality. A powerful message to children that (cliche as it sounds) killing is not the solution no matter how evil the enemy. Harry/Ginny and Ron/Hermione, with much emphasis on the latter ship, are officially, officially canon! Even though the epilogue was confusing and overflowed with fluff, it was a good way to put closure into everyone's minds. They're never going to have to struggle with the darkside again. Special mention to Ron's humour and lovable mannerisms, they never failed to make me giggle like a 12 year old.
After a little over a week of finishing DH, I'm still grieving over its end. I'm going to miss a lot from this series but I know I'll always have the books to look back to plus two more movie installments! Not to mention fanfictions!
The world certainly was not aware of the ride they were about to embark upon leafing over the first page of Philosopher's Stone. I don't think anyone was prepared at all.
Bless JK Rowling's soul for she touched over a billion people's lives with God knows what we'll be doing without her 'out of this world' imagination.
PS. If anyone wants to read some good fanfiction, this is one of the best I've ever read back in high school. Give it a go!
