Broilers are dangerous...

I have to mention that I have an electric oven with the broiler on top of the oven. I decided to broil chicken for dinner since that is the way my mother in law makes it and I really like the texture. I have never before used a broiler so I busted out a really old, gnarly looking pan since I figured this experiment might go awry. I lined the pan with foil and coated my chicken with olive oil and Mrs. Dash. I fired the broiler up, full blast. I could hear the chicken popping and sizzling as it cooked so I turned it over and turned the broiler down to low(it only has two settings). It was in me to ditch the chicken and go check my email but I decided against it remembering the time I flooded the bathroom because I decided to check my email while the tub filled. So I stand a few feet away from the oven and wash dishes. Soon, I smell something burning. Just a hint of char, and watch smoke billow out the top of the stove. I sternly advise Braeden to go to the couch and then I open the oven. As I remove the chicken, it is on fire but not really burned, if that makes sense. I think the olive oil was burning off. I shove the flaming chicken onto the counter and make sure the oven isn't on fire. Thankfully, it isn't, so I turn the broiler off and put the almost done cooking chicken into the oven at 350 degrees. I wasn't brave enough to go for round two of broiling. I do have two fire extinguishers in my kitchen but I am so glad I didn't have to use them. For the record, the chicken was mighty tasty with just a hint of char broiled flavor.
