It seems surgery recovery is a rollercoaster ride, especially at my mom's age. Today was not bad, but not as good as hoped. She is still very distressed & disoriented. It's painful to see the look on her face, even as she sleeps.
Physically, she is still doing okay, but we are not out of the woods yet. While her kidneys were sleeping, the fluid collected in her lungs, so she is congested & has a small cough. They have given her something to help the fluid exit through normal pathways, but until it does, they will keep her in CCU.
A highly recommended neurologist took a look at her today, and ordered a cat scan & will do an EEG probably tomorrow. This will be a good start, we hope, on finding out how (if) we can enhance her brain & ability to function.
