Saturday and Sunday

I slept like a dead person Friday night. The sitter was worth her weight in gold, if only for the peace of mind to be able to do that! I got to hospital at 9:00 Saturday morning, paid the sitter and began my own vigil. They had had a rough night, so she slept a while after I got there.

Saturday was just plain weird. The doc was pleased with what her heard in her belly, so said she could have clear liquid diet. This is very good. However, all day she was weak, incoherent, and hallucinating. She would doze off but she would be fidgeting doing "tasks" with her hands, so I'm sure she was not resting. I asked the nurses about why it was so different from Friday, and they said, "Oh, Day Three after surgery is like that." So I guess it's fairly common.

She was kind of freaking out well into the night, so they finally got the doct to order something to calm her down. It took well over an hour to kick in, and finally about 1245 we went to sleep. She woke up coughing a few times, I had to leap up & give her tissues & water so that she wouldn't try to get up.

They let us sleep as long as they could, and early this morning they came & took her catheter out. She went back to sleep, and woke up needing to go to bathroom, which is very good - means the digestive tract is healing & starting to work properly again!

The day nurses came in & gave her a proper bath & clean gown, and she sat up & ate some jello. Nurse came in & tried to reconnect her IV, but it was clogged up, so rather than inserting a new one, got permission to take her off it, since she's eating & drinking normally now. Doc came in & found the numbing medication had run out, so took out those little tubes. He also took off bandages & inspected the surgery site, and declared it ready to be cleaned up & unbandaged.

So, something of a banner day! All three tubes out, moving from clear liquid diet to "full" liquid diet (inclusion of dairy, near as I can tell), and no bandages. After nurse finished taking off the bandages & cleaning her up, she pulled up the covers and went to sleep, and has been sleeping soundly, and almost without fidgeting, all day. Even missed her first "full" liquid lunch! I think it's very very good, seems like that good, long, natural sleep that is soooo healing at the end of an illness. And if it messes her up for tonight, they will just give her something to help her sleep tonight as well. For now, sleep is the thing she needs most of all.

Okay, time to get back up there and check on her. I'm going to hire a sitter for tonight as well, because I clearly HAVE to go home & sleep, but she is still not quite ready to be alone.

The other good thing about today is that My Darling is on his way home to me! Hooray! It's been ANOTHER ten days, Yikes! But he should be able to be home with me for a little while, and THAT is a wonderful thing! :-D

Thanks again to all who have prayed & visited & helped in various ways!
Love!
