Friday Night
Well, today was not too bad.
Physically, Mom is doing great. This morning they gave her a bath, put clean sheets & gown on her & got her sitting up in the chair. She stayed up all day long, and went for two walks around the "block", quite a long walk for someone who just had surgery yesterday!
The doctor put in a new technology which is two tiny catheters delivering a numbing agent directly to the surgery site, which then minimizes the amount of general pain medication she needs. This is a good thing, minimizing her confusion. Sort of.
She is very, very confused about where she is and what has happened. When it was just me & my brother up there, she would get rather panicky and/or despairing, thinking we were doing something horrible to her on purpose. But so far not anything LIKE as crazy as she got on morphine after her last surgery. So, hopefully it won't get any worse than today, and with luck, better!
When there was someone besides me & my brother with her, she was a lamb, totally calmed down & chatted. So we hired a "sitter" to stay with her tonight. It's not cheap, but not prohibitively expensive for a night or two, so it should be worth it to us.
Meanwhile, I went to her house & took care of her cats & grabbed a couple of things for her, came home & did a load of her laundry, ate a bite & drank a bottle of water. Now it's time to go get a good night's sleep, as I have to be back up there at 8:00 in the morning to pay & dismiss the sitter.
