oh man, what a delightfully active day after being strung out and out of it the entire weekend. nothing like the doldrums of work to smack the stupid intoxifications out of you. it's been a pretty good last couple of weeks. i think the flow of new people in my life is starting to ebb a little bit and things have started to plateau a bit, but they have led to more interesting developments than just merely meeting new people. i've had small parties at our house these past couple weekends and it's interesting to see the reaction of my old friends to the good amount of new people. it makes me glad to see them meet and become friends as well and perhaps share some sort of previous connection. and so we learn how small the world really is. last weekend, someone showed up at my house saying they knew the previous renters of my house. i was a bit intruiged because the previous renters were supposed growers of marijuana.
my new job, which i haven't written about, is by far the most boring, easiest, yet the most exploitable working environment i've ever worked in. they try to feign supervision by being extremely micromanaging with my timesheet. they make me get it initialed for everything: when i come in, when i leave, when i go to lunch or go on these 15 minute breaks they give us. but their actual supervision is extremely lax and so i forge signatures of supervisors that are never there at the same time and can comfortably leave a half hour or so early. and so, it is in this fashion that i hope to continue working there for another 5 or so weeks. i hope ryan's 'ennui' (french word for boredom, which he used as an excuse to get off work) isn't contagious. luckily, i have mixed cd's from cristina and npr streamed live from washington on windows media player. i also have secret internet access powers from using the log-in i got from working at south miami, all those hospitals are all owned by the same company. windows media player itself is amazing and i must comment on it, albeit briefly. it can make a playlist of your top-rated songs, or songs you haven't listened to, or even music you listen to only at night (windows media player is paying attention). and it can even compile a playlist of one cd's worth, so it's like insta-mix! ok, that's enough about media player.
i got my tax refund today and i think it's the biggest check i've ever gotten in one check, ever. as i wait for my roomates to come from their trip, i plan my own. i'm going to canada! driving from boston to toronto and montreal. hopefully that robert baydes character will break his 22-year record of not leaving miami and come with me as i explore the northeast and camp along the way in upstate new york and such. and i can't forget claire who'll be rendezvous-ing with us in boston and coming along for the car ride. should everything go according to plan, mike will join us as well for a week of boston-ing it up to which i'll totally be sporting my 'i heart boston' shirt which will undoubtably lead me to boston's kindest strangers.
the weekend was very chill in retrospect. friday's party at the legendary blue house was packed with rowdy fun. i tried to return the favor and offer my house up for a follow-up party on saturday but it was lackluster for everyone was a bit strung out from the previous night badly in need of a second wind. ryan and i tried to move everyone to a nearby party. it was a great effort, we actually herded a good twenty or so people to this place. it was going to be great to totally overwhelmingly crash someone's party but it proved to be extremely wack territory and so as to not abandon my esteemed colleague, we brought everyone back to the only welcoming house in the whole universe. ours. sunday, i found myself home alone for the first time in ages. i was badly in need of some time to myself so i shunned everyone away for some elongated episodes of solitude and personal recreation time. it was very rejuvinating after an intense weekend. and by some grace of god, i didn't smoke a single cigarette that day. i think that's called progress. i also had comedic episodes of trying in vain to kick out our the girl's house's cat that comes over all the time now. this has been a scattered, unorganized entry. so i'm ending it now. looking ahead to fun times.
