seeking to end the controversy over the acquisition of half a dozen US ports (including Miami) by state-owned UAE firm, Dubai Port World has scrapped it's hopes after GOP leadership in congress expressed their contention in the face of the president's veto threats. congress attached a provision to block the port deal onto a 'must-pass' piece of a spending bill to finance wars in afghanistan and iraq as well as hurricane relief in new orleans. how could the president toy with vetoing something like that? leaving the shattered dreams of those in the gulf coast go forgotten. leaving unprotected soldiers to have their parents send them money to buy their own body armor. tisk tisk. didn't you have a word in 2004 for what you're doing? flip-flopping. and senate majority leader bill frist, you were trying to filibuster the senate from voting on blocking the port deal. aren't you the same bill frist that argued judicial nominees deserve a simple 'up or down' vote? aren't you the same bill frist who wanted to strip the so-called 'nuclear option' and change the rules of the senate so you can't filibuster? i don't need a video-tape to diagnose that you're brain's in a "persistent vegatative state". you're actually pretty lucky that the company is giving up over all this heat, because you'd look like bigger idiots. then again, maybe Dubai was pressured into giving up this whole port acquisition idea by extreme conservatives. just like they pressured hariet myers to withdraw her supreme court nomination. well hopefully, unlike hariet myers, in eight months maybe people will still remember this. i'm still not sure what an emirate is.
