Oooh, first cab off the rank!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
She hunts them, through the parks and the theatre groups, always staying in shadow, always watching. She’s learnt to recognise that look in their eyes - the look that they are staring into another world - and read the signs of desperation in their movements.
She warns them, and even though most of them back away from her with fear in their eyes, she likes to think that she has made a difference.
He asked her once, between sleeping and waking, why she would even bother. She stared at him for a long moment before replying.
“I’m giving them a chance.”
Pfffft. I say she's keeping those other hussies away from her man!
*coughs* But seriously. I like the idea that there's something that would make people susceptible to being drawn into the Labyrinth, and that Sarah makes her her mission to see that they're not.
"between sleeping and waking" - I really like that phrase. Somehow, I think that a lucid dream is the Goblin King's habitat of choice.
It was no ordinary pair of dice. Each one had thirteen facets, and carved on each facet was a symbol Sarah could not decipher. The script glowed like embers. With a flick of his wrist, Jareth cast them across the stone table. The dice didn't rattle; they chimed invitingly, like bells. Sarah let them spill from one palm to the other. They were cold and smooth, surprisingly heavy.
Jareth gestured gracefully with a gloved hand. "If you win, the Labyrinth is yours."
"And if I lose?"
The Goblin King's smile grew lean and feral. "Then you are mine."
Heh - D&D, Labyrinth style!
And how does she know if she's winning if she doesn't know what they symbols mean?
Not that anyone would accuse His Royalness of cheating, not at all... ;D
"And how does she know if she's winning if she doesn't know what they symbols mean?"
That's the rub. *g*
Now I wish I knew more about D&D, because there ought to be a Labyrinth-creatures-play-D&D fic with Jareth as a grumpy Dungeon Master!
..... That is either the most insane thing I have ever heard, or the most brilliant, I can't decide.
Apologies for this not being challenge related... kirschreich August 5 2009, 04:30:12 UTC
Either I am too stupid to do it or I forgot something important about how to make a livejournal entry between the last time I was online and last monday...
I distinctly remember to have at least attempted to post to this community and to have read something about entries being moderated and needing a while to appear on the site after I posted. At least I think I did... But for some reason my entry did not yet appear - I am starting to believe that I might have messed up that post somehow (eventhough I believe that would be quite a feat). Since I don't know where to post - could someone of the moderation team please tell me whether there is a queued post by me or not? Thank you.
It was hung up in the moderation queue. :) I must've missed seeing the notification for it, but then again, LJ's e-mail notifications were a bit wonky this week. The post should be showing up fine now.
Sarah flung back the covers and threw open her bedroom door with a roar. “Jareth! You know I have finals tomorrow, and the only reason I’m letting you stay the night is because you promised to make me breakfast. So I suggest that you turn the music down, or so help me, I will hurt you.” Her threat was backed up with “Take a chance on me,” from the stereo. When the king drew in breath to answer Sarah opened one bleary eye and glared at him. “And you will not enjoy it!” Jareth sniffed, but turned down the volume.
Damn, now I'm going to have that song playing in my head for the rest of the afternoon!
I wonder how good the King is at making breakfast? *ponders*
The real question is how has he survived goblin cooks.
*snerk* Where is Sarah's sense of adventure? She should've made him strip down to his ruffly shirt and a pair of boxers to reenact that dance scene from "Risky Business".
Or maybe don a ripped sweatshirt, leotard and headband for the scene from "Flashdance", which might be more Jareth's style.
To crop, or not to crop... lixxle August 5 2009, 12:40:15 UTC
A/N: I'm over the word limit again *grumbles*. Mentions of very mild tying-up-and-slapping. No Goblin Kings were harmed in the making of this drabble.
It is difficult to look regal while tied naked to a bedpost, but Jareth managed it with considerable aplomb. Now, if only Sarah would play her part...
“Don't you enjoy having me at your mercy?”
Sarah trailed the riding crop half-heartedly along his thigh. “Of course, but I don’t want to hurt you.”
“I assure you, precious, that a good time will be had by all.”
When she didn't reply, his leer gave way to a calculating smile. It was a long shot, but desperate times, tra la la...
“Did I mention that I bogged Hoggle today?”
The crack as leather met skin was heard by all in the kingdom, even those in the oubliettes.
Thanks! I bet he tried out a whole lot of different "looks" while he was tied up. Angst-ridden, lecherous, somewhat contrite, rougish-yet-alluring...and settled with regal. He is such a poser...
*laughter* A very believable taunt from the goblin king.
