It was no ordinary pair of dice. Each one had thirteen facets, and carved on each facet was a symbol Sarah could not decipher. The script glowed like embers. With a flick of his wrist, Jareth cast them across the stone table. The dice didn't rattle; they chimed invitingly, like bells. Sarah let them spill from one palm to the other. They were cold and smooth, surprisingly heavy.

Jareth gestured gracefully with a gloved hand. "If you win, the Labyrinth is yours."

"And if I lose?"

The Goblin King's smile grew lean and feral. "Then you are mine."

Heh - D&D, Labyrinth style!
And how does she know if she's winning if she doesn't know what they symbols mean?
Not that anyone would accuse His Royalness of cheating, not at all... ;D

"And how does she know if she's winning if she doesn't know what they symbols mean?"

That's the rub. *g*

Now I wish I knew more about D&D, because there ought to be a Labyrinth-creatures-play-D&D fic with Jareth as a grumpy Dungeon Master!

..... That is either the most insane thing I have ever heard, or the most brilliant, I can't decide.

I like to think it's a little bit of both, as all good Labyrinth humor fics tend to be. ;D

Eeeeep - don't do it, Sarah. If you can't decipher the symbols, how on earth will you know he's not cheating?

Also, I would like to see more of this. Bribery?

Unfortunately, for once I have no imagined backstory to this-- it's just something that popped into my head, starting with games of chance and the dice. But I think I'll file it away in case I ever need to use it in a longer fic. :)

Ah, what a delicious description of the king - lean and feral suits him excellently.

I always thought so. It's the smile, with Bowie's pointy teeth. ;D

This is seriously creepy. You must be so proud.

I would LOVE to know how this turns out...although I think this Goblin King cheats:)

It's an intriguing little plot bunny of an idea. I've filed it away for future use, because I like the idea of Sarah playing games of chance with the Goblin King.

Ahh, lovely. Frankly, it's a win-win situation for Sarah. Though she should know better than to play games with the King. Unless it's strip-poker, where Jareth would probably be happy to lose. Exhibitionist.

Either way, I'd be taking Jareth to Vegas with those magic dice.

In addition to all of the fabulous comments from others, this reminds me of a scene in "Guys and Dolls" where one character has blank dice, "But it's okay, because I remember where all the dots were."
