Unbound - Epilogue

As the TARDIS closed behind him, the Doctor considered several possible destinations. Could do with another visit to the Eye of Orion. Earth is becoming increasingly stressful. He tapped out some coordinates, erased them, and input others. Contemplating the merits of a bath versus a sandwich, he began to feel he was being watched. Glancing up, he saw that his instincts were correct. Glared at, actually.

“Something bothering you, Turlough?” His companion’s eyes narrowed and the younger man’s jaw dropped. The Doctor waited patiently for the litany of complaints to begin, but, to his surprise, Turlough smiled. Normally that would make him happy, but the sight of gleaming white teeth, clenched together and framed by tightly drawn lips was unsettling. “Turlough?”

“Take your clothes off.” The tone was harsh, but the smile remained.

The Gallifreyan cocked his head, pretending he hadn’t heard correctly. “Pardon?”

“Take-your-clothes-off-now.”

“Isn’t tomorrow laundry day?” the Doctor wondered aloud. “I’m glad you want to finish up your chores early, but if I give you my clothes right now I might catch cold.” Aware that while he prattled, his companion’s smile was quickly fading, the Doctor tensed, ready for movement. “Perhaps you should just do your things. I think your sheets are probably filthy.” Turlough moved swiftly to the other side of the console, but the Doctor stayed out of his reach. “Why the sudden urgency to disrobe me?”

Turlough snarled. “You smell like her.”

“Who - Ileana?”

Nostrils flared. “Yes! She was rubbing herself all over you. It was disgusting, and I couldn’t say anything about it until now.”

Goodness, he’s upset. “Turlough, relax. I’ll admit that I found Senora Douglas fascinating. She’s a remarkable woman, and though I would have liked to get to know her, to understand her, better, your jealousy is unfounded. I felt no affection for her. She made some rather large assumptions regarding the nature of my interest.”

Though visibly relieved, Turlough’s brow remained knit. “Oh, she assumed all right. The last forty-eight hours have been less than comfortable for me, and I would like to show you a little affection, but you smell of her. It bothers me.”

Calmly, the Doctor removed his jacket, but before he could fold it over his arm, he was tackled. “No fair!” he cried as his shoes were removed without being unlaced. “You know, I was much less concerned about you spending the night with the Jaguar Maiden.”

Turlough snorted as he tugged striped trousers down and off. “Ha! You had every right to be ‘concerned’. I spent hours defending my honor. She didn’t even believe me when I said my religion forbade sex before marriage. Finally, just so I could get some sleep without being molested, I told her I’d been injured in a hover car accident.”

The Doctor snickered, then chuckled, and finally roared with laughter. He clutched his sides and tried to regain his composure while Turlough pawed at him. “Just a minute, please. Let me catch my breath.” He pulled his jumper up over his head, and let Turlough get to work on the buttons of his shirt. “Couldn’t you have just told her you were…”

“Oh no. The last female I tried to explain that to was determined to cure me. Besides, for all I know the spirits of the forest frown on that sort of thing.”

The Doctor shivered. “See, now I’m cold. I told you. Could we continue this in my room?” Turlough relented, and helped him to his feet. “You’re certainly…assertive lately,” he remarked as they left the control room.

Turlough shrugged. “I told you I was going to become more aggressive in the third cycle.”

“Yes, well, I’m not sure I believe that.”

“What? That I can be aggressive? Shall I pin you down again and prove it?”

“No, not that. I don’t believe there is a third cycle.”

“Would I like to the man I love?” The young man smiled sweetly.

Touching, but he is…Turlough. “If you thought you had a good reason.” He stopped walking, and gave the redhead a chance to come clean.

His lover sighed. “Fine. There is a third cycle, but only for females.”

“I don’t know why you feel such a need to embellish the truth,” the Doctor said as they entered the bedroom. “I’ve told you over and over - if you want something you should just ask. The worst I’ll do is say no.”

Turlough looked up at him and grinned. “Can I top?”

“No.”
