Books, birds and booze

I WILL NEVER EVER IN MY LIFE GET RID OF ANY BOOKS EVER AGAIN

Because it's freaking expensive and time-consuming to replace them.

I've been feeling very nostalgic lately and want to revisit the books from my childhood, specifically some books by Enid Blyton. Those Enid Blyton books were my Nancy Drew and Anne of Green Gables; I've read those too ( Read more... )

When I neared the hawkeaglekillerbird, it flew off with the pigeon clutched in its talons, loudly and suddenly, spooking me and I screamed.

Scary! I once saw a sleeping bat on a sidewalk in North Cackalack but this is way freakier.

I don't know, sleeping bat on a sidewalk is muy freaky. Generally, I don't do so well with birds.

I will be on the lookout for Enid Blyton books in the Bay Area. Many bookstores... one never knows.

You're so sweet, Rotty. It seems like thefourthvine can hook me up. I envy SF's bookstorishness. I weep for the lack of good Chinese bookstores in Austin and Houston.

Which Enid Blytons did you want? Because I have a bunch left over from my childhood (I, um, don't get rid of books, ever), and I'm not going to re-read them (I find I prefer the memories of her books to the reality, which is kind of...dodgy sometimes), so - if you want some of them, I'd be happy to give them to you. (And if you don't want them, because you'd rather have new and/or hardback versions, that is also perfectly fine.)

Let me know if you'd like to see a list of the ones I have.

Oh my god! This totally made my day! You're very kind. And I agree with you on the dodginess of the books, they are very much the product of her time.

The Blyton books I'm looking for are any titles from the following series: The Naughtiest Girl, Famous Five, Secret Seven, St. Clare's, and Malory Towers.

Thank you so much!

Okay. Yuletide story is done - thank you god - and I have time to look for Blytons. So, the first run-through of the children's section has produced:

-Ones I'm Happy to Give Away-

The Famous Five:
2: Five Go Adventuring Again
5: Five Go off in a Caravan
6: Five on Kirrin Island Again
7: Five Go off to Camp
8: Five Get into Trouble
10: Five on a Hike Together
11: Five Have a Wonderful Time
12: Five Go down to the Sea
13: Five Go to Mystery Moor
14: Five Have Plenty of Fun
16: Five Go to Billycock [OMG that sounds different now] Hill
17: Five Get into a Fix
18: Five on Finniston Farm
20: Five Have a Mystery to Solve
21: Five Are Together Again

Secret Seven:
1: The Secret Seven

The Four Cousins

-Ones I Am Slightly, but Only Slightly, Less Willing to Give Away-The Magic Faraway Tree ( ... )

I'm impressed you have a children's section, my books are arrange according to the Willy Nilly Classification system

Five Go to Billycock [OMG that sounds different now] Hill

Especially when it comes (heh) rights after Five Have Plenty of Fun. I don't think I've read #18, what is it a hated book in your household?

I'm interested in the Famous Fives and Secret Seven books, and I'm grateful for whichever books you can give away.

I'll send you and email to you. Thank you!

Was the movie that bad? Now I am intrigued. Hawk/pigeon scenario would only have enthralled me, but I have a strong stomach for grossness and nature's cruelty. Grew up looking at icky photos in medical textbooks.

*hugs* Good luck especially w/Enid Blyton books. Never read her, but heard about her.

The movie itself is okay, and it has received many good reviews from critics. But the message in the movie made me angry.

If the killer bird started to dig in right there and then, I'd probably be both intrigued and very grossed out.

Thanks, darling!
