Well, Lilia and I are safe and sound here in Bangkok! It's absolutely gorgeous outside, and whenever I hear people on the street talking about how hot it is I just have to laugh - it's no where NEAR the awful temperatures that Wuhan reaches, and it's not nearly as humid either!
Our flight to Guangzhou was very uneventul, other than the fact that both Lilia and I were in the center seat in rows of men. We both hate how Chinese men seem to take up as much room with their legs as humanly possible... but after living in China for over five months, it's totally normal, so it didn't bug us all that much!
We had a four or five hour layover in Guangzhou, and since there seemed to be only two restaurant options, Lilia and I went for the sit down variety rather than gross looking buffet. It was SUUUUPER expensive, and even though we only ordered three dishes, we weren't able to finish any of them. To be honest, the food wasn't even all that good, and we were very excited that we would be saying goodbye to Chinese food for a while!
The flight from Guangzhou to Bangkok was really short, as well as underbooked, so Lilia and I had a row to ourselves for the majority of the flight. We actually practiced Chinese vocab cards on the plan because we want to make sure that we don't lose all the Chinese we've learned so far before we get home! We weren't expecting it, but we got a meal on the plan that was typically awful Chinese airplane food, and once again got very excited about the prospect of Thai food.
When we got to the airport, we flew through customs and baggage claim, and ended up waiting for our ride for almost an hour. It was a little bit stressful since we didn't know the name of the people picking us up and we didn't have an address anywhere. Luckily, two girls came with a sign and after my happy, "THAT'S ME!!" we headed out. They asked us if we were hungry, and even though we weren't at the time, by the time we actually made it into the city almost two ours later we were famished. We ate at a restaurant that was used in the movie "The Beach" and walked around some of the tourist-y streets. Everything was so colorful and pretty! Lilia and I are both on visual overload since we haven't seen this many foriegn people since we left the United States almost five months ago.... it's been really odd, and actually we were a little uncomfortable. I wonder what it will be like when we get home in five months? While we were walking around we stopped to get mango and sticky rice, and it was AMAZING!!! I've never tasted anything as good as that in my whole life!
After stopping at a bar for the best Malibu and pineapple juice I've ever had we went decided to go home, and it was fairly hilarious to us when we were stopped by the police to search our car for drugs! We know it was because the two of us were in the back seat...
I have so much more to say but I have to get offline so that we don't get charged for more money! I'll try to update again soon! The weather is just amazing and everything is JUST my style, so I want to buy pretty much everything I see! Sorry for any typos, no time to spellcheck!
