Her mother is not here. Not her mother, nor her father, nor her sisters and her brothers. She is alone here, this is not her home. But it does not seem unfamiliar to her, another dreamland amidst the many that she has fled to time and time again.

The ocean makes her bones ache, the water sends spines of nausea through her as she watches it slosh and flow. It is antithesis to her, a creature of deep roots and ancient earth. She knows how distance weakens her family, and she is already so weak. Would a trip across the waters be fatal to her? She stands with her hands tucked into her jacket pockets and wonders on it, grim and silent.

She cannot die. She has duties to perform, clothes to wash and mouths to feed. Grandchildren to provide to her mother. Eden dismisses that thought immediately, turning away from the pier and heading back into the town itself. She walks quietly, a little shadow that is hard to notice, but she is watching. Observing a world that is very distant from her own.
