In Bloomington, the first snow of the year once fell on Halloween. School was cancelled, a rare occurrence for well-prepared and hardy folk like Minnesotans. Kids waded through twelve inches of snow in flurry-soaked costumes. I felt so bad for any little squirt who made it through the drifts that I gave them each a full bag of candy.
The first snow fell the day after Thanksgiving this year. Among other things, my parents and I found time to meet some of my friends at Fireside Pizza in Richfield, a family joint in the truest sense: both my family and the families of my friends have years of memories stored up within its walls (the parents of one of my other friends had their first date at Fireside in the '60s).
On the far left is Shawn, whose wedding I "served" in. His wife, Chris, is on the far right with their daughter, Allison, in her lap. A second child is on the way.
Mike is next to Shawn; my parents are right behind me -- notice the same grin on mine and my father's face.
One other thing Mike introduced me to this Turkey Day was Devendra Banhart -- enjoy this little track, whose mood and color remind me winter in my childhood home, despite the spacey lyrics!
