Summary: For Jonghyun, he was willing to do anything.
Kibum saw Jonghyun on the couch, head in his hands. Normally, Kibum would laugh and make a (slightly) rude comment. Normally, Kibum would knock Jonghyun’s head, he never believed in hierarchy anyway, hard so that the older boy fell forward. But at that time, two in the morning to be precise, Kibum didn’t do either of those things. Instead, he slid down next to the boy, his hand landing gently atop Jonghyun’s. The main vocalist snapped his head up in surprise, and Kibum let out a low laugh.
“Kim Jonghyun didn’t notice me coming - that’s a first.”
Jonghyun sighed, but he smiled back. “Sorry,” he waved his other hand, “I have a lot of things on my mind right now.”
Like that girl? Kibum bit his lip.
“Want to share?” he offered shyly. “It’s okay if you don’t want to,” Kibum added quickly, seeing Jonghyun’s expression darken.
Kibum felt Jonghyun grip onto his hand, and he smiled a little. “Just, stay with me. Could you?”
Kibum squeezed Jonghyun’s hand in return, muttered a soft ‘sure’ and laid his head on Jonghyun’s shoulder. He watched as Jonghyun’s eyes unfocused as he returned to his thoughts, and although they weren’t talking, he felt good, because the other boy’s hold on his hand did not loosen in the slightest.
“I have a girlfriend,” Jonghyun confessed.
Kibum was silent, “I know.”
Jonghyun pulled his hand away. “You knew? All this time?”
“Of course,” Kibum wrung his hands together, “It’s Shin Sekyung isn’t it?”
Jonghyun nodded slowly. Kibum reached up to ruffle Jonghyun’s hair.
“Of course I knew, you doofus. Did you really think you could hide something like this from me?”
Jonghyun laughed, and Kibum could tell that he felt more confident of himself. “I’m sorry Kibum,” he took Kibum’s hand again, “I really don’t know what I would do without you.”
Kibum sighed, although his heart felt like it was being picked apart piece by piece, because he was willing to do anything just to keep Jonghyun smiling through another day.
“Don’t apologise. I’m just being a good friend.”
Jonghyun’s smile grew wider than it had ever in days as he threw his arms around Kibum. “No Kibum, you’re my best friend.”
“Best friend,” Kibum repeated slowly, letting a small smile grace his features as his arms moved over Jonghyun’s back, “I could live with that.”
