Don't you just love...

Being accused of something, and when you take steps to rectify the situation, you're blatantly ignored? (forgive the mix of title and main body, I haven't updated this thing since May...)

Here's a little background for you folks.

in 1997, Christopher here got his hands on an old Packard Bell with (at-the-time) the not so bad processor speed of 256mhz PC and a connection to the internet with an incredibly 'fast' speed of... 14.4kps (then shortly later, 28.8). I've been hooked to the internet ever since.

Yes folks, at the lovely age of 13, I became an internet addict.

Due to school and the inevitable (and, thinking back on it in hindsight, completely correct and wonderful) interference by my parents, internet time was cut and choked off at various stages, with availability often relying on completion of chores, grades, and personal conduct.

In 1999, my addiction took a turn for the worse, with a sudden lapse into the evil world of Yahoo Chat. Shortly afterwards, my first internet girlfriend (though I had had internet "flings" before, this one was, and still is in my eyes, the first step into my quest for true romantic companionship). This further led into my decent into Group pages, instant messaging based group chats, and those super evil social groupings called Bulletin Boards. (God, this makes me sound old... BBS's? Those are so last half-decade.) Of course, this also led to the disintegration of my relationship with my first internet girlfriend (if you don't know who it was by now, you're either dense or you haven't gotten me drunk yet.), however this isn't about my forays into my personal love life like previous (and I'm certain future) entries were (are).

No...BBS's led me to further social distractions from reality. Yahoo Games being the first, which then led off to my peak of internet addiction, IRC, and Runescape.

What? Those aren't even the same kinds of things!

Yeah.. I know. And for those of you who don't know... here's what they are.

IRC

Arguably the most popular (at the time) forum of communication. It mixed well prebuilt chatrooms, mass chatting, multi-room chatting, instant messaging, coding, script writing, and various political powerplays.

RUNESCAPE

One of the more popular, and cheesiest, MMORPGs out there. Created by Jagex, LTD. It has widely been described with such colorful euphemisms as "Evercrack Jr." "Everfree" "World of Warcrack without the colorful explosions, awesome graphics, drain on your wallet, and desire to harm innocent Goblins because you're a dwarf with a gun" and further things I may or may not have created in my head just now...yeah...

Between those two glorious, distinctly distracting evils in my life, I did some of the more stupid things in my life.

Broke off an Engagement
Dropped out of college (actually, I associate GameFAQ's BBS for that one.)
Ran out of money and had to move to N. Carolina
Started (and lost, a year and a half later) a job at Walmart
Started drinking heavily. (a mix of being Internet less for a year back in '05, which led to the disintegration of yet another potentially beautiful, yet online, romance and said disintegration. Though I digress, I did get better.)
Got hooked on D&D, again. (This is only stupid due to the fact that the books are expensive, otherwise, D&D is really cheap to play, as you can often mooch on those who game so much they keep extra dice sets, paper, pencils, Cheetos, Mt. Dew, and other gaming necessities.)

Of course, all that ranged from 2003 to 2006. After I got the internet back, I was full force addict again.

Then November of 2007. I got an apartment of my own, wasn't a store manager at Movie Gallery any more, worked various jobs and now work a job at DHL which means up at 6 or 7, work until 7, get home at 8 or so. You know the drill. Sleep takes alot (when I can) of my time. And when I don't, preemptive planning keeps me away. Hell book reading keeps me away from the net as well.

In short, I broke my internet addiction.

Now I'm barely online. People who used to jump for joy at my appearance barely give me a once over, and a list of people, whom I refuse to name names, who used to demand my attention when I AM online, don't even acknowledge my existence. Including people who were insistent on, and I quote, "letting a world we created live, despite all that's happened between (us)"

In short. I'm online right now. I have a number of people I used to talk to frequently, as recently as 6 months ago, who know I'm online, and yet still have not sent me a message.

sucks doesn't it.

My name is Christopher, and I approve this message. (foreshadowing a political rant next time? who knows?)
