You all know that I don't normally go out of my way to advertise any particular website or tech product. I normally just share the new tech toy that I got. But this one, I have to share.
When I first told everyone that I was hired by Microsoft, people asked me what I was working on. My reply was just that I was working on the
MSN website and I'm part of the Weather team so I'm working on the
MSN Weather website. What I didn't tell people at the time was that we were revamping the entire website.
I was so excited to participate in something so big for my first job. Many people who join Microsoft get to work on a product and they ship an update or software patch to an existing product. It might be a little while before the team ships an official product. I was very lucky to get to ship my very first product in my first year and for my first project.
The new MSN page (and
Weather page) officially shipped across the world this past week. I am very happy and proud to say that I had a hand in every single part of the Weather portion of the MSN site. I mainly did the front end (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) but I also dabbled on the backend (C#). I put a lot of work and hours into this product and I'm so happy that it's out there.
If you've read this far and still haven't clicked on the links, go take a look. =) Let me know what you think. Just a note, we already know about several things that need to be fixed (and maybe the fix is already sitting on my computer ;) ). Feel free to let me about it anyway. Or if you want to be anonymous about it, use that grey feedback button on the bottom right corner of the browser.
I learned a LOT in this past year. I can't even believe that I've been here for almost a year already. I learned about all of the work that's necessary to make a website this huge, all of the politics behind the scenes to get things done, the frustration of dealing with the decisions made due to politics, the different types of people and personalities necessary or unnecessary when working in a team, and so much more. It was a really fun year and I really like my job and my co-workers. Let's hope that things don't change for a while. =)
