What his family didn’t know was that Percy did come home for Christmas.
He Apparated into the yard at the Burrow and came as close as the front window. Through it, he saw George and Fred trying to maneuver Ron and Harry under the mistletoe. Bill swung Ginny in circles around the tree. His father and Charlie were having an animated discussion, their hands flying and their mouths laughing widely.
He couldn’t stand the thought of ruining their joy, so he Disapparated away as quietly as he came.
(What Percy didn’t see was his mother in the kitchen, wiping her eyes on the tablecloth.)
