Amid the March Snow

Mar 13, 2018 21:06

Work's been busy, I've been tired and sick, etc.

Last week, there was a good chunk of snow on Thursday. Eris had a bit of an eye infection, so I backpacked her to and from the doctor in the snow.

Last weekend, Sarah had a release party at Porter Square Books for her new book of children's poetry Hidden City: Poems of Urban Wildlife. Was a lively event and the book is lovely, so many congratulations to Sarah!

Daylight savings time happened, but the transition could have been worse.

Today was even snowier than the spot of snow from last week. Daycare closed, spent the day together at home.

I got another box of vegetables last weekend and did quite a bit of cooking: Carrot and parsnip soup with ginger and fresh sage, beet salad with tahini and honey and za'atar, sweet and savory beef stew with celeriac and kohlrabi and dates and Finback coffee stout, roast potatoes with romesco sauce (Julie made the sauce, using the recipe from Modern Sauces). It's just all been really good, and I feel a lot happier when I'm making some home-cooked meals and the leftovers don't feel like a chore.

Eristic improvements: Picking out (and insisting on picking out) her own clothes, putting on her own clothes (more interest than ability at this point), walking up stairs unassisted (with banister), mimicking a sneeze (her new favorite joke is responding to "are you cold?" with "achoo!")
