Favorite Paleo-ish Snacks

1. Cheese
My body doesn't freak our with dairy the way it used when I used to have a big bowl of ice cream. I try to stick to cheeses that are aged and goat cheeses which, apart from the cultural appeal, have never given me an upset belly. Not quite paleo but I claim the 80/20 rule here and throughout (Sisson, Mark. 2009. The Primal Blueprint. Malibu, CA: Primal Nutrition, Inc.).

2. Avocados
Yummy and very nutritious. Throw a little lime and salt on it. Nom-nom. High on the list because it continues to be a craving of mine during pregnancy.

3. Hard boiled eggs
So convenient, quick, and filling. PLUS, Paco makes a mean deviled egg using avocado as the filling. Nothing like combining two winners.

4. Leftover meat
Sometimes we pick up a chicken roast so that we have enough to put into a salad and then leftovers. If I'm home I don't even bother to heat it half the time. I go really primal and eat it with my hands. Grr.

5. Bananas
They're a bit high on sugar content but at least it's all natural.
OR
Veggies dipped in Hummus

6. Apples with Almond Butter
Before the pregnancy I would actually crave apples and almond butter. They're still great but my body doesn't seem to "ask" for them anymore.

7. Handful of Walnuts
I'll take almost any nut/seed but for some reason walnuts are my favorite.

8. Chai tea with Goat Milk and a little honey or Palm Sugar
If I just need a little pick me up this can do it.

9. Baked Goods (made with almond or coconut flour).
LOVE baked goods but lower down on the list because of preparation time, cost, and use of sweeteners (usually palm sugar, maple, or agave at least). I try to make enough over the weekend to last us throughout the week but we usually have about only 3 days worth.

10. Dark Chocolate
Hey, I'm only human.
