A real quicky

Just to share some awesomeness I ran into today.

Media coverage and female athletes is a great 50minute document about females in sport and they ways they are covered and portrayed in the media. It raises some really great points, especially about the sexualization and objectifying of female athletes and backs those up with solid research data. I'm going to do a more in-depth blog about some of those points as soon as I have the time, but for now all I'm saying that this really should be a must see for any sports fan. Simply fantastic.

The other thing that's equally, if not more so, awesome is the blog for MEGA (Minnesota Elite Goalie Academy). It does seem to be rather new, with archives going back to February of 2013, and there aren't that many posts made to it, the quality more than makes up for any lack of quantity. There are few posts from Kent Patterson, who Wiki tells me is an Avalanche goalie prospect, playing for the Lake Erie Monsters of the AHL, which at least by a quick glance seems to mostly deal with going from playing collage/junior to turning pro, and I'm sure are really great read.

But the real draw, at least for me is the series that Noora Räty is doing about preparing for the Winter Olympics. It's a really interesting look into the everyday life of an professional athlete and what it takes to get ready for something as big as the Olympics.
(For those who might not know, Räty, arguably one of the best - if not the best - female goalies in hockey, was University of Minnesota's number one goalie last season when they had their 41-0-0 perfect season to win national championship and will backstop Team Finland to their first ever Olympic gold come February. (Shut up. I'm not holding out any hope of the men's team even medaling, so I'm overcompensating by having extremely ridiculous expectations of the women's team. That's just how I roll.))

That's it for now, I have a free weekend so I'll try and get around to do a longer update during but for now great new years for all!
