...Wow!

I got my Birth Certificate. I was confused that it did not have a gender listed (i looked over it like 10 times in front of my parents probably weirding them out). I ended up doing a web search on here and found this website with an explanation:

At the current time, if i flash my birth certificate at somebody, it doesn't list gender. I'd have a damn funny girls name.. but somebody would have to go to a lot of trouble to dig up the county books.

Only problem is, when i go for name change and every gets switched.. it'll be reprinted, presumably with the original gender. Considering the note to state you'd have to document to a court you've had sex-change surgery.. that may haunt me for a bit. I don't know if a carefully worded letter will be enough to get past that. I'll have to dig and find out.

Indiana (update 2006)

In the past, Indiana did not show gender on the certified abstract of the
birth certificate. That has now changed. Your certificate, if issued now,
would show the gender on the original record, which can be changed only by
an order of the court. In other words, document to a court in the county
where you now live that you have had sex-change surgery, request a court
order that will allow us to change the sex, send a copy of the order to us
at the address below along with an $18.00 check or money order made out to
"ISDH." If you have other questions, please let me know:
