I got an email from the Chat people the other day in response to this.

As you can appreciate, we have to rely on our readers' honesty when they are sending in letters and tips. Chat is a completely separate publication from Pick Me Up and we have no way of monitoring what other titles are printing or have printed.
However, we have cancelled our payment to Julie Mills so she hasn't been paid twice for submitting the same tip to two magazines.

So, despite it not actually replying to the email I sent, it seems others wrote in to complain that another mag had featured the same "great tip". Yay... I feel sated.
