00 25 Retcon Time
Hi, CFUD! Just in time for new cast to join, Soma and I are embarking on an EPIC RETCON.
P.S. Beware spoilers ahead.
Part I: Go Go, Fight Fight.
Okay, so you may or may not have noticed that Allelujah and Soma have fought a lot. A lot a lot a lot, since this is what they do in canon. Unless Soma’s special suit is blocking Allelujah and Hallelujah’s brainwaves, or Hallelujah is intercepting Soma’s for Allelujah, being around each other is physically painful! Uh, the first they get in touch with each other, Hallelujah starts shouting that he’s going to kill her, and Soma goes crazy and starts trying to blow up the space station he’s on until she passes out. From that point, they’re each others’ nemeses.
The interesting thing about their fights is that we know they can hear each other, even when they don’t have an open radio channel (though they’ve talked like that, too). I was almost certain that they could see each other, too - Visions That Are Totally Not Hallucinations in every Gundam series I’ve seen have always been audio-visual (Lalah? Zeta Gundam runs on dead people? Kira and Fllay? Shinn and Stellar?), and in episode ten, when Allelujah is going “I can hear that woman’s voice…” it cuts to a shot of Soma, and her voice is distorted, so I was pretty sure that their link had a visual component.
It doesn’t, and that kinda complicates things.
Part II: Marie.
Kill me, Allelujah. And live, for Marie.
So episode 25, all things considered, was almost as much an Allelujah episode as it was a Setsuna episode.
Hallelujah: Allelujah, beat it. I've got no use for a guy who can't do anything in a life or death battle. I'm gonna live. Even if I have to drink the blood of others to do so!
Allelujah: I'm going to live too.
Hallelujah: What?
Allelujah: I've yet to hear the world's answer, or even the meaning of this battle… until I know that, I can't die!
Hallelujah: Heh...so you've finally gotten in the mood. Then let's show it to that girl … the true meaning of a Super Soldier!
Hallelujah/Allelujah and Soma and Sergei’s final battle begins with Hallelujah pulling off his helmet and pushing back his bangs, giving them MAD HAX where they finish each others’ sentences, and I really, really have to hand it to Hiroyuki Yoshino: he was fucking amazing pulling off two voices. Blah blah blah fighting Doublelujah dominates against Sergei and Soma, which continues until Doublelujah almost kills Soma and Sergei intervenes, buying just enough time for Soma to beat the crap out of Kyrios. Something explodes in Kyrios and puts out Hallelujah’s eye.
Sergei: What are you doing! Leave me and fight, Lieutenant!
Soma: I can't do that! If I lose you...I'll become truly alone.
Soma gets out of her cockpit and goes over to Sergei. Baaaaaworthy Wild Bear And Loli moment ensues. Allelujah sees this image on his sensors and - HOLY SHIT HE RECOGNIZES SOMA. As someone named Marie. Hallelujah knew the whole time, but didn’t let Alle know… w-which, sob, I guess I expected. HIDING SOMETHING RLY IMPORTANT!!1! I just didn’t expect it to be this. It’s still not clear who Marie is: the novel has that one line, “And live, for Marie,” and Hallelujah tells Allelujah “If you knew… you wouldn’t have been able to fight [her]. You’d be dead.” OOPS. IT’S A GOOD THING THAT CONVERSATION WITH OZ WAS IN IC_SECRETS.
… and then Hallelujah’s eye is put out and he tells Allelujah that he’s going on ahead, s-sob. But I am not going to get rid of Hallelujah. Though I will need to do a mini-essay at some point about how, following 23 and 25, Alle and Halle will be more cooperative.
Part III: Soma, Allelujah, and the Retcon.
So Soma and I decided that Allelujah is going to get hit over the head with a blunt object and recognize Marie. So… no more murder attempts on his part.
[allelujah] ... so Soma, what did we decide? I get hit with a blunt object while watching you bend lovingly over a teddy bear. "MARIE!!!" ensues. We have a civil conversation. We avoid mentioning any name Alle had when Soma was still Marie, in case I'm Andrei. And we remain happily vague about why the hell I was living for you for ten years?
[megumi] I think we can work around the NOT YET REVEALED STUFF for now, so let's go with what you've just proposed.
[megumi] and must it be a teddy bear?
[megumi] ;;
[allelujah] ... a wild teddy bear?
[megumi] orz
Point being, we'll be playing out some sort of retcon in the near future (though we are not -- not -- canon updating to 25. There's still a chance that I'm, uh, dead. So we're just doing 24 plus "MARIEEEEEEEE"). Keep an eye out for the retcon and the subsequent breakdown. ♥
