Philosophical Tendencies...

So something occurred to me today. Most of the people in my life would disagree with me on this point. I was watching http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zSgiXGELjbc earlier again, and got in a philosophical mood.

Carl Sagan points out at one point just how much thought goes behind the idea of the number 1. Just the fact that someone came up with the idea of it, that people came up with the full understanding behind it's need and existence, is amazing. And that's one thing. The world is FULL of these things.

And what blows me away is that so many of the people in my life, if I tried to explain this thought process and philosophy, they would say I'm wasting their time. Or they wouldn't try to bother to actually THINK about these facts. Personally, I call them the triumphs of the human race itself. I mean, look at what we've created. EVERYTHING, all of it, based on someone sitting down at some point, to THINK! To say, 'Hey, I wonder if I thought of something THIS way, maybe I could come up with something new...'

I blame my dad for this. I honestly have to say he's probably the only thing close to what I could call a 'free thinker' in my early life. Mind blowing, I know, for anyone who knows my dad. It's also the greatest gift I think he could ever have given me. To see the world and our accomplishments, and be able to take pride in having the presence of mind to think them through.

Thanks Dad.
