Last weekend, five friends (Daniel, Darnell, Rachel, Faye, Tiffany) and I went to Boone. Last year, some of us went up there, stayed at Rachel's mom's house high in the mountains above Boone, and hiked Grandfather Mountain. It was such an amazing time, so we decided to do it ( Read more... )

Last weekend, the junior high youth group went on a year-end retreat to Washington DC. Here are some highlights, in order:

• eating at Sonic on the way up there
• riding up with Kyle (a 14-year-old) in the passenger's seat, chillin, talkin, and listening to Pink Floyd and Coldplay
• the Holocaust Museum (heavy, but amazing)

Last Saturday, I went to the fair with some people from church. Erin organized the trip, and she and Amanda and I drove over there, where we met up with Andy, Maria, Tim & Caitlin, and, later on, Pamela. We had a very full day, arriving around 3pm and staying until around 11. We:

My last few days in San Diego, I really felt the love. Tuesday night, before my last day at work, Hyun-chul (visiting researcher and desk-neighbor), Fragkiskos, Alberto (summer interns from Cyprus and Italy, respectively), and I went out to downtown San Diego for the first time together. My parents visited me last week. We had a great time. They flew in Saturday (the 5th). We ate at Patio Loco (on Cinco de Mayo), then I took them contra dancing. They'd never been, but they enjoyed it--although Mom got a blister on her foot and we left early.

Last weekend, Sarah organized a trip to Asheville. It was a package deal, including 2 nights at a hotel, a day of skiing/snowboarding, a "brews cruise", and a bluegrass CD. I just discovered that the chocolate milk I bought is actually barely milk at all. I poured myself a glass--I try to drink a glass a day for the calcium, ever since I broke my arm--and I glanced down at the label and snickered that it said "Chocolate Drink" instead of "Chocolate Milk". Friday night, a big group of us went out to Top of the Hill to celebrate Vince's birthday. When he got there, we all gathered around, loudly sang the happy birthday song, and generally made a spectacle to try to embarrass him. It was his 24th birthday, and it was March 24th. Today was Rick S.'s birthday, and Brad organized a mass trip to Conki Kanki, a Hibachi grill in Durham. I had never been to a Hibachi grill before--you know, where they cook the food right in front of you, doing all sorts of fancy tricks and everything.
