Title: Of Onyx and Amber
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: Kyoya/Kaoru
Summary: Hikaru finds the truth and Kaoru gets a wish come true. (I had to make Hikaru the main character for this part, it was the only way to answer questions and set it up properly. Enjoy.)
Disclaimer/Author's Notes: I do not own the characters or anything related to Ouran High School Host Club. This is purely fanmade.

HIkaru left the cafeteria shortly after Kaoru all but stormed out. He couldn't hide the concern he felt for his twin, and excused himself from the room. Hikaru hurried downt he ahlls, unsure where Kaoru had gone. He wandered around the school, going from bathroom to bathroom hoping to find his brother, until it dawned on him that there were spare uniforms in the Host Club's dressing room. Hikaru made his way to the Third Music Room, slowly opening the main doors. He looked around, only to discover that no one was in the room.

Damn it, Hikaru thought to himself, Kaoru, where are you?

As he turned to leave, he noticed a pile of uniforms on one of the nearby couches. He shrugged it off, thinking that someone was cleaning the dressing room and forgot to put the uniforms back. Out of the corner of his eye he spotted something on one of the numerous tables. SOmething small, black, and rectangular in shape. Kyoya-senpai's notebook. Hikaru thought that it looked out of place without the Shadow King nearby to hide its contents from prying eyes. A plan formed in Hikaru's mind. A simple plan, all it would take is speed and dexterity. He carefully made his way over to the notebook, keeping an eye on the door incase anyone should wander in, and placed a hand on the cover. It was smooth and cool, just like its owner, and perhaps, just like its owner, it held a wealth of knowledge. Knowledge about everything and everyone. He griped the cover, preparing to open the notorious, black book.

Curiosity killed the cat, Hikaru silently warned himself, But satisfaction brought it back.

He flung open the notebook, only to have his hopes dashed yet again. Instead of a wealth of knowledge, the notebook was full of observations. Observations about Kaoru. Hikaru read through the pages, trying to contain the shock he felt, until he reached the end of the notebook. There staring back at him, was a picture of his twin smiling. He turned the picture over to discover a note written in Kyoya-senpai's elegant script. As he read the note he discoverd it to be a poem.

Through dreams I have chased
An ever-fleeting light
A being so pure, that I do not wish to taint
The angel I see with my Shadow

This angel taunts me, with every smile
I long to hold him, if only for a while

With his hand over his mouth, Hikaru stared at the poem. He couldn't believe it, he refused to believe it, even witht he proof in front of him. The Shadow King was in love with Kaoru. He placed the notebook back on the table, and began to leave the Third Music Room. As he passed the dressing room he heard voices inside.

"Besides in all honesty," said a low tenor, "I want to."

"Senpai, what are you doing?" replied the other voice. A voice so familiar to Hikaru that he could find it in a crowd. Kaoru's voice. Hikaru assumed that the other voice was that of Kyoya-senpai, finding the lone nothebook confirmed it. Hikaru watched the interaction between Kaoru and Kyoya through a crack in the door. They were standing in a near-embrace, their lips almost touching.

"I want to help you find the spare uniforms, Kaoru," Kyoya purred, a smirk on his lips,"In return I want you to do something for me."

The pile of uniforms made sense to Hikaru now, Kyoya had placed them there in order to get Kaoru alone.

"A favor? What kind of favor?" Kaoru asked, his nerves clear in his voice. Hikaru noticed that the two never moved apart, or closer for that matter. They stood there as if rooted in place, like two intertwined trees.

"Simply go out with me this weekend," Kyoya stated, his smile immaculate, as if he hadn't planned this encounter. Hikaru fought back the urge to barge in and wipe that smile off Kyoya's face, but he knew better. He He knew that such action could have adverse effects on his and Kaoru's futures. Instead, he sat there and watched as his brother thought about Kyoya's price. Hikaru knew that Kaoru felt something towards the Shadow King, and he supported him, even though he thought it was crazy. Hikaru knew Kaoru's answer before it was spoken.

"Alright, I'll go out with you," Kaoru said, glancing towards the door. Hikaru knew that he had been caught, and grabbed one of th euniforms from the pile. He readied himself for the plan the twins had silently formed during their quick eye contact.

"But you know, Kyoya-senpai, you didn't have to go through all this trouble to ask me out," Kaoru continued, winking at Kyoya, "I would have said yes regardless." With that Kaoru left the dressing room, leaving Kyoya to regain his composure.

After Kaoru had dressed and left, Hikaru entered the dressing room and walked towards Kyoya.

"What do you want, Hikaru?" Kyoya said, as he finished returning the spare uniforms to the clothes rack.

"If you do anything to hurt Kaoru, you will regret it," Hikaru said, his eyes colder than ice.

"Hikaru, I would never hurt him. He means far too much to me, so your threats aren't needed," Kyoya replied without turning around.

"It's not a threat," Hikaru said as he turned to leave, "It's a promise."
