Because Murata is a walking crossover device

All the people you never suspected AKA the Great Sage's slightly odder reincarnations:- In Harry Potter: Neville Longbottom. Because Shinou wanted to keep a closer eye on Voldemort in case he got to be a danger for the Mazoku. They manipulated the prophecy so that the Sage could kill him if needed, but unfortunately Voldemort went for Harry instead ( Read more... )

The thing is that Tamaki and Shinou look identical. It's terrifying. And I can sort of see Shinou, in his first new life, deciding to just relax and have fun instead of being completely chained by duty and going *completely overboard*. (Although him being Tamaki is still a bit extreme. Maybe the Sage slipped him drugs.) And, I mean, THEY CALL HIM KING. XDDDD

Although Hunny is disturbing on a whole new level. Can *you* see Shinou being all cutesy like that? I mean, I have the odd seven-year-old Shinou fic/idea but even there he doesn't behave like that. Hunny could be... Guenther? (Guenther actually makes a really good Tamaki, too). Hmm.

Gwendal as Haruhi. Oh my god. And yes, Cheri MUST BE Haruhi's dad, it's perfect. It's brilliant. Same goes for Annissina as Renge. But - wait, how about Conrad as Haruhi? They have the same unflappable air. Then Gwendal can be Mori. Noo idea what to do about the twins, though, or where Wolfram and Yuuri fit in. :S

...feel free to keep speculating! This is the most fun I've had in ages.

That does sound about right with Yuuko and Clow, although like I said I don't know the series. And yes, Murata does seem to enjoy teasing Shinou. ("I don't want to have to babysit you anymore!")

But, then again, Murata had been Christine before coming to Shin Makoku, so maybe he secretly enjoys having a figure.

...according to the soundtrack, Christine worked in pornography. I. Don't think Murata would have trouble showing off. XDDDDD

I'm a rather new MaruMa fan, and I had no idea about that little tidbit. XD Actually, if you think about it, that explains a lot about him. (And this gave me another fanfic idea, gah!)

If Conrad is Haruhi, then Josak and Dan Hiri are the twins. I could see them teasing Conrad together. XD As for Wolfram and Yuuri...I dunno. Maybe Wolfram could be that little kid--Shori?--that tried to become Tamaki's apprentice. Or Wolfram and Yuuri could be that couple you meet at the beginning of the series--the girl that always trades out host club members to make her shy fiancee jealous?

Yeah, Shinou as Hunny is odd, but who's to say that he wouldn't do it for kicks? I mean, with four thousand years or so between his time and the time Yuuri becomes the king, he's got enough time to goof off for whole lifetimes.

Yay Murata ideas! *wants more Murata fanfic. Waaaaant*

I ran across it in two fics and was all "WHUT" at first, but now... it isn't actually that surprising! And it confirmed my suspicion that Murata does what he wants/needs to do and does not care what the world thinks at all. Which is kind of scary in a way, because I get the feeling he doesn't really consider the rest of the world "real" anymore and well. Okay, I'll stop before I get carried away!

Yozak and Dan Hiri as the twins. Oh my god you are giving me horrible Haruhi's dad/Hikaru or Kaoru images (which one is which??) But. Yes! I can see Yozak teasing Conrad horribly; Dan Hiri's a bit more of a stretch (really, he should be Haruhi's mum) but he's the only other char that really fits. And I like the idea of Wolfram and Yuuri of the girl and boy at the beginning of series. Wolfram's the girl, you think? It doesn't fit perfectly but I cannot see Yuuri flirting at all ever.

...if Haruhi is Conrad, Belal should be Benio. Oh my god what.

And now you are making me consider Shinou as Hunny. I bet he gets a kick out of it. Although in that case, Murata should be Mori... and he makes such a perfect Kyouya. Sorry, I'm afraid I'll have to stick with the Tamaki theory. ^^

No, do get carried away! I'm such a characterization whore it's unbelievable. And the theory that the world to him is no longer "real" fits him very well. I mean, with living that long as that many people, in two (possibly more) different worlds, probably everything seems skewed.

It's so terrible, I can't tell the difference between the twins at all, in the anime or the manga. And that image fried my brain as well...and it wasn't that bad. 0_0 How far I have fallen. Maybe my image of Dan Hiri is a bit off, but I've always thought of him as a humorous, yet dependable, guy.

Wolfram is the girl. I can't see Yuuri as a confident flirt. Even the novel!Yuuri isn't quite that confident (though, I must say, I haven't read that many translations, so I might be wrong).

Belal as Benio. Oh my goodness. I can just see Big Cimaron's army running one of those crazy Zuka plays.

This has been awesome. Do you mind if I friend you? ^^

I'm a complete Murata fan (Yuuri? Who's that?) so, yes, yay for characterisation debates~ ^^ Murata is really interesting in that regard, I find, because we just about never see what he's really feeling; he hides behind masks all the time. Which is why this list works - I mean, hey, the chars *could* just be putting up a mask, right?

And yes, I sort of picture that by now, Murata's world has basically consisted of the Shinou and nothing else for a very long time - everyone else is just fleeting, there one life and gone the next - so that when he starts to actually like and care about Yuuri, it's extremely confusing for him and not actually very welcome.

But yes, Yuuri is no confident flirt. Although may I ask where you got novel translations from? The only ones I found were through so few chapters that I couldn't get a picture of the chars at all. :S

Belal as Benio. Oh my goodness. I can just see Big Cimaron's army running one of those crazy Zuka plays.

Oh god yes. And, and... Maxine as the black magic guy! Um. Let's see... Flurin, Alford, Stoffel and Raven still remaining... uh. I think I've forgotten too many of the minor characters. And really, storywise Yuuri should be Haruhi (stranger coming into a foreign world) but the personality does not fit at all.

And sure, go ahead! *friends~*

I'm a big Wolfram fan (poor Yuuri, he's the star and yet he gets outshined by his supporting cast. *pets*), but Murata is one of my top favorites because of all the reasons listed above-- he's got huge amounts of knowledge that the anime barely skims over. And I love the fact that he's a rather neutral character, because it gets everyone talking about whose side he's really on (it's really sad, I've watched the whole anime series and I still wonder. Poor Murata).

I've always thought that as well! He always sounds so surprised with himself when he says that he's fond of Yuuri.

Oh, I just found the novel translation that only has the first fifty pages. -_-

Oh, and Beatrice makes an excellent little sister to that black magic guy! She looks the part and everything. As for everyone else...eh, let's just say they were put in some other animes worlds.

Poor Yuuri indeed! (In my case, it's that I hate seeing people making fools of themselves, which Yuuri *does* do on a regular basis even though it always works out). I'm okay with Wolfram, but Murata outshines everyone by far for me. I think after Murata and Shinou, either Conrad or Yozak comes a diiistant third. And yeah, the "whose side is Murata really on?" is one of those eternal mysteries. (I've come to the conclusion of "Shinou's" - that meaning Shinou of four thousand years ago, not Shinou of now - with a good helping of "his own" thrown in for good measure. In fact, by now I'm not sure he remembers how to work with anyone other than himself. :().

What really struck me as a very defining moment for how Murata actually thinks of Yuuri is that scene in the end of ep 75 where he says something like "the world has no need for two suns." I always figured that he meant Yuuri was becoming really important to him, important enough to be put on a level with Shinou and he really never wanted that to happen, never *wanted* anyone to come and mess up his worldview and try to displace Shinou in his life. *hugs Murata* Must be terribly confusing for him.

Ah, I think I've found that one as well - the one that ends just before the duel? Or does it go farther? I always wanted to find out how they managed the Maou transformation in writing.

Beatrice! It's perfect. And yes, maybe we'll let the others escape the sheer insanity.
