New York Comic Con 2011: Part 1

Oct 14, 2011 00:13

-We boarded the plane at 12:49pm and flew to La Guardia Airport in Astoria, NY. The flight itself was pretty nice--a little cramped, and I started getting stir crazy in the last half hour of the ride, but the rest was fine.
-The hotel shuttle came and got us (for free, yay!) and we dumped our stuff and then headed straight into the city to meet my darling Twitter friend/unofficial writing sensei Andy Rattinger for coffee at Starbucks on Broadway.
-Riding the subway was interesting. We didn't run into any murderers or crazy people. I was relieved. The ride was long, but pleasant. The weather was pretty sticky but not unbearable and I got some good pictures of the atmosphere surrounding the city, and a great shot of the bridge from the train station.
-We met Andy for lunch and had a ball. I actually ordered what Castillions have come to call a Beckett coffee--a grande skim latte with two pumps of sugar free vanilla. It's not very good, but I wrote "The Beckett" on the side of my cup with a pen and took a picture of it. LIKE A BOSS.
-After that, Andy led us to this pizzaria called Two Boots. Oh. My. Wet. Shivering. Jesus. It was the best pizza I have ever had in my entire life. Papa Johns, you have been put to shame. I had one slice of the Bayou Beast, which had crawfish, shrimp, chives, and some sort of unique sauce on top, and then a buffalo-wing blue cheese pizza slice, and then I ordered another Bayou Beast just because it was so good and took it back with me to the hotel.
-So far, I'm really digging New York. It has an interesting look and feel that's completely different from the South. We're heading to the actual convention tomorrow morning so I'll report back in 24 hours. I really, really want to get Kevin Conroy's picture and autograph after the Arkham City panel so pray that I actually get to see him when I go. Same for Mark Hamill, Chris Evans, and Shane West.

See you tomorrow, folks.
