Title: The Coffee Maker
Genre: Crossover A/U
Pairing:  Jin/Ueda
Summary: Akanishi Jin gets interviewed by a top secret agency who needs a man to make coffee.

After being in American for a few months to preform concerts. Akanishi Jin returned home for his birthday. He had hoped that that would include an appearance on stage with his group. Perhaps even a little side adventure with his part time job. He had missed the adventures with his group of friends that called themselves the UFO Branch.

Jin had been heartbroken when Johnny-sama decided that he needed to leave the group. He wasn't even allowed to say goodbye to his friends. Instead, he was sent back to America.

Johnny-sama decided that Jin needed a part time job. Trying to break into the American market was costing his agency too much money.  So Jin was given a piece of paper with an address on it and a time he was expected to interview with the head of the company.  He was also ordered to wear a suit and tie.

Jin finally found the building; it was in the middle of a block of storage buildings. It was locked. He rang the doorbell.

"Who is it?" A woman's voice asked.

"My name's Jin Akanishi. My agent sent me here for an interview." he told the voice.

A few moments passed. A woman opened the door. She had long dark hair. "Can I see your identification?" Jin showed it to her. She studied it. Then in her strange accent she said. "Come this way."

Jin was taken to an office. A man sat behind the desk. He looked to be about thirty.

"My name is Captain Jack Harkness; I'll be conducting your interview." The man told him. "Do you understand me?"

"Yes, I understand," Jin said.

"Can you type in English?" the woman with the strange accent asked.

"Yes, I can."

The Captain looked Jin up and down his eyes settling on Jin's waistline. "Can you make coffee?"

"Can I make coffee?" Jin repeated.

"We need to know if you can make coffee. It's a fundamental part of your job."  The woman told him.

"Yes, I can make coffee."

"Go make us some," The captain ordered. "The kitchen is down the hallway."

Jin went and found the kitchen. It wasn't that hard to make coffee. He could remember back at home Ueda used to love drinking his coffee.  That was the one thing he missed about Japan, his lover Ueda.

Jin concentrated on making the coffee. He found a tray and put two cups on it. He found the creamer and the sugar. When the coffee was finished, he poured two cups and placed them on the tray.

Jin carried the tray to the interview room. He tapped on the door.

"Come in," The man ordered.

Jin did as he was ordered. He served the coffee to his interviewers.

The Captain gestured to a chair and Jin sat down.  The interviewers sat there not speaking as they drunk their coffee.

"One of my fellow agents has given me his highest recommendations." The Captain told him.  "After looking you up on the internet I did have my hesitations about hiring you. You've been seen at many places enjoying let’s say a very active social life."

"I do like to party," Jin agreed. "But I do have someone that is special to me."

"Ueda did paint himself with that butterfly in that video didn't he?" the woman asked.

"Ueda Tatsuya is your lover isn't he?" The Captain asked.

"I don't understand," Jin lied; he knew exactly what they were talking about.

"He was right, he does keep secrets." The woman told the Captain. "How many years did you work in the UFO branch?"

Jin felt his blood run cold. His ties with the UFO branch were top secret.  He was able to hide his side job by playing that he was an airhead. The only one that knew the truth was the members of his former group.

"I don't understand, what's a UFO branch?" Jin played stupid.

The Captain touched a button on his desk. A few moments passed and someone came into room. He felt the person run his finger across Jin's shoulder.

"Hello Jin," the person said in English as he walked to stand beside the woman. Jin couldn’t believe his eyes, it was Ueda!  Jin hadn’t seen his lover in months. He wanted to run and take his friend into his arms. But he knew that their relationship was a secret that these strange people didn’t need to know about.

"Ueda, what are you doing in America?" Jin asked.

"I'm trying to get you a job." Ueda smiled at him. "You're too good of an agent just to languish here doing nothing but singing."

"So you're the one that recommended me." Jin realized.

"Would you like to work for us?" The Captain asked.

"What will I be doing?" Jin asked.

"You answer the phone, take messages, and make coffee." The Captain smiled. "And chase aliens."

"Do you think you can handle it?" The woman asked.

"Yes, I think I can." Jin decided.

"Welcome to Torchwood," The Captain got up and shook Jin's hand.  "You'll start tomorrow morning at nine sharp."

"He'll be there," Ueda promised.  "I'll make sure of it."

"See you two in the morning," The woman told him.

***********

Jin followed Ueda out of the building.  He reached out taking his lover's hand. "What are you doing for the next few hours?"

"Since I came all this way to America for your interview. I thought I'd spend some time with you." Ueda smiled the smile that Jin so missed. "Then tomorrow morning, I'll get you settled in your new job."

"Torchwood," Jin repeated the name to himself. "How did you know about it?"

"Spoilers," Ueda said before kissing his lips.
