Stress! + Halloween/Christmas rants

Nov 02, 2010 23:33

There are so many midterms and projects due last week/this week/next week. I'll put aside 30 minutes of internet time to de-stress, but before I know it, that 30 minutes has turned into 3 hours and I haven't gotten any work done. *slaps self* Bad student! This is only made worse by the fact that all of my homework requires a computer. So it's not like I can just turn my computer off and do my work...

Dreamworks and Pixar are both coming in the next two weeks for interviews. It's been soooo long since I had job interviews. I'm somewhat excited and somewhat nervous. Not sure what to expect from Dreamworks, but I hear that Pixar's interviews are intense.

What else...? Last night I smelled something burning. It started to get really bad after five minutes or so. I looked outside to find that the cigarette disposal had caught fire. And the smoke was circling straight into my open window. (Of course.) I ended up running to my floor adviser because I wasn't sure what else to do. It took us about 10 minutes to put the fire out because no one could find a bucket to fill with water. Let's hope there's never a fire in my room, or I'm doomed.

I spent all of Halloween feeling sick and trying failing to do my homework. No Halloween candy for me.

My mother did send me a Halloween care package, but it arrived a day late. Inside was...

-A cheesy Halloween card. I think it included a fart joke. XD
-3 copic markers. I've been wanting to try these. I'm used to colored pencils, so this will be a bit of a challenge...
-Lots of candy, including Twilight-themed candy. I think that was mom's idea of a practical joke. The Twilight candy didn't taste very good, fyi.
- And this:

I've never liked Star Wars very much, but I always thought Yoda was adorable. Now... well, now I'm kind of frightened. I don't think I'll be able to unsee this for a while.

Speaking of Halloween, none of the stores had clearance candy on Monday. They all had Christmas candy out instead. What's up with that?!

I'm sure you'll hear me rant about this a lot in the coming months, but I really HATE the Christmas season. It's far too cold and the same annoying music is playing everywhere. The stores are too crowded, everything is sold out or overpriced, and I have to sit through dozens of stupid commercials about receiving cars as Christmas gifts (complete with a bow wrapped around the top of the vehicle). Like anyone actually does that! I used to like Christmas lights and tree ornaments and yard decorations, but I've found that most people have horrible taste in those and they just lead to neighborhoods and houses looking gaudy.

When I was a kid I always looked forward to Christmas. I wonder when I turned from a normal person to a scrooge...

Speaking of Christmas, I need to think of gift ideas for my parents... I have no idea what either of them would want. (When I ask, my mom says "having you home is good enough" and my dad says "you don't need to get me anything".) They usually get each other something cheap or some type of gag gift. My dad likes

There was one figure I wanted to buy for myself. From the One Piece POP series. Bet you didn't see that one coming. I'd actually been meaning to buy it for a while, but I'd held off because it was kind of pricey. It was released in September. Guess what? Now it's sold out everywhere and the price has almost doubled. Good job, self.

They are releasing a bikini version, but I don't understand the appeal of scantily-clad figures. However, even if I completely disregard that opinion: if I'm going to pay upwards of 6000 yen for something, it had better come with more clothes/accessories than a bikini! Seriously, there is no way that an almost-nude figure costs that much to mass-produce when the "standard" version with intricate dress designs retails at the same price. I guess I'll hope for a re-release or something...

But One Piece makes everything better.

It turns out that Shanks' hat actually belonged to Gol D. Roger. (Who was pretty much the greatest pirate ever, for those who don't follow the series.) I always did wonder how Shanks got that hat. And now I wonder even more, since you'd just assume the Roger would give the hat to his first mate instead .

And young Roger bears a striking resemblance not only to Ace, but to Luffy as well. If it hadn't been shot down by the word of god, I'd swear that Roger and Luffy were related by blood.

I also find it kind of funny that the Marines either don't know or pretend not to care that Luffy has Roger's hat... considering that they try to destroy everything connected to Roger.

Just... FJKLAWVAOIVMAW! (Don't mind me. Fangirling. And laughing forever at the rest of the chapter.)

rant, school, one piece, halloween, christmas, pointless post, fangirling, i can't afford that!, i'm a moron
