Nooooo, my DS Lite!

Mar 26, 2012 03:55

I was playing Fire Emblem on my DS Lite, and suddenly, the L button just quit responding. I can manage to make it work in about 1 out of 7 tries, but I have to mash it really hard. Hard enough to make my carpel tunnel issues flare up. (The button doesn't feel "stuck" or anything; it just doesn't respond.) I'm not sure why this happened. I try to ( Read more... )

nooooooooo!, failure at video games, question, technology fail, flipping tables, complaining, why am i awake?, fire emblem, freaking out, video games, cry more

i am pretty sure nintendo fixes systems for free and you only have to pay shipping from you to them.

As of 4 years ago they didn't. My Wii technically didn't break, but the fan started running really loudly and I was worried that it was going to overheat. Nintendo charged me $80 to even look at it.

they don't, actually. my DSLite had a crack in the hinge and they quoted me $90 to fix it a few years ago.

Yikes. Mine has a crack in the hinge too, though it doesn't seem to affect the gameplay.

For a price like that, I could just buy another DS Lite.

I was worried mine would get worse. :I Because it was fairly bad when I called them. I always take very good care of my systems but the Ninty rep seemed to insist I had been mishandling it, and that's why they were going to charge me. (Even though cracked hinges is ridiculously common, and I had read an article that ninty was replacing them for free (ALL LIES))

So I just replaced the outer case myself...mostly. I replaced the cracked part anyway. It didn't cost anywhere near $90. Just a ridiculous amount of time and the cost of a new DS shell.

Nintendo accused you of mishandling it? Wow, that sucks. The few times I've dealt with Nintendo, the reps have been really nice (though they do charge an arm and a leg for repairs).

Mine has been cracked for about 3 years and doesn't seem to be getting worse. I'm not sure why it cracked to begin with, honestly. It's fallen on the ground once or twice, but in general, I take good care of my systems.

Not directly, but in so many words. They basically refused to admit the problem was bad manufacturing (which it was on early models, which mine is) so that just left me "abusing it". excuse me, but I have a launch PSP that looks like I bought it MIB yesterday, kthx, I do not mishandle my expensive electronics (or anything, really)

The cracks are something that happened on those systems. It's just how they were made, I think. Nintendo was apparently replacing them for free because it WAS their mistake by making them wrong but apparently that deal expired before I got mine in.
