Nooooo, my DS Lite!

I was playing Fire Emblem on my DS Lite, and suddenly, the L button just quit responding. I can manage to make it work in about 1 out of 7 tries, but I have to mash it really hard. Hard enough to make my carpel tunnel issues flare up. (The button doesn't feel "stuck" or anything; it just doesn't respond.) I'm not sure why this happened. I try to take good care of my game systems. This is the first time I've had one randomly break on me. Aside from this and one tiny crack on the hinge (and obvious things like fingerprints on the case) my DS Lite is in like new condition.

Has anyone else had this happen? More importantly, is there a way to fix it? Other than sending it into Nintendo, that is. I have a feeling that would cost almost as much as buying another DS Lite, after I paid for shipping + their repair fee.

I guess I could try to play games without the L button, but that's going to get really old really fast. I use that button all the time while playing Fire Emblem, and I play Fire Emblem, like, every day because I am obsessed.

I don't want my DS Lite to be broken. I NEED it to play GBA games, since the 3DS can't. ;___; Well, okay, technically I could play them on my Kyogre GBA SP, but I try not to play it too much because I don't want to damage a $300 system. Also, it is so tiny that it's uncomfortable to hold.

Edit: I Google'd, and one of the suggestions was to put your mouth to the button and blow into it. (Yes, really.) I tried it and it actually worked. So um... yay for cheap solutions! I just hope I didn't get any spit in there, because that is sure to make things worse in the long run. You need to last me another 5 years, DS Lite. I believe in you.

Edit #2: Oh wait, it's not responding again. I guess that fix was too good to be true...

nooooooooo!, failure at video games, question, technology fail, flipping tables, complaining, why am i awake?, fire emblem, freaking out, video games, cry more
