This weekend was coronation; it was far away but lovely. Over the past few months I have been slowly but surely coming to more events. With the end of my EMT-I training (well I still have field apprenticeship that will go through the holidays), the return of somewhat stable health, and the coming of fall (my favorite time of year), I find myself doing more with the SCA.
For the time between Pennsic and Coronation I found myself in the casting shop - a lot. I made buttons for this person, garters for that one, cast A’s and purses for fundraisers, site tokens for Atlantia Coronation, fealty tokens for Trimaris coronation, some undines, some fleur de lis, and something else I am sure I am forgetting. In any case, the metal things count was upwards of 800 in the two weeks. It was WONDERFUL. I haven’t had that much fun carving, casting, and flitting about the shop in ages.
I may have found my new calling. Shaking people down. Well selling fundraising tokens that is. In less than 2 hours at coronation I sold every token I had taken with me to the event and made about $700 for the new crowns (and let me tell you having seen the bid, they will be drop dead fabulous). I had the time of my life. I puttered about and got total instant gratification of talking to all sorts of people, supporting a great cause, talking about shiny metal bits, and filling my afternoon at coronation with something to do. I need to do more of this. I like having something meaningful to do at events.
After the event, we went to C&Ps for the remainder of the weekend. That of course also meant time at Doug’s place. There was grilled food, Taboo, friendly amounts of libations, quality pod time, time with the impossibly cute boy, and a lot of sitting on a sofa doing nothing. I needed that sort of weekend more than I even realized.
I am reminded that there is a huge distance between not unhappy and happy. I look forward to getting to some more events this fall. Perhaps Masters of Defense, Crusades, maybe Crown, Holiday Faire … more events in the next two months than I have been to in the past 6. Wow.
