Mom is the hospital

It's strange to be at my house by myself. I think that maybe I've only spent a few nights here on my own in my whole life, there was a week right after I graduated high school when I flew home but Mom and Daddy drove there and back, so I had about a week here by myself. Can't actually think of any other times.

Mom is in the hospital overnight, as I called her this morning and she sounded extremely peculiar, kind of mushy, and she wasn't answering the things I was saying, she was having a different conversation. So I called her doctor and he said to take her to the ER, and I did. She cycled between being completely lucid and completely not, and between half her mouth not working and then only a slight droop.

Here's how you get fast service at an emergency room, walk up to the desk and say, "I think my mother's had a stroke," and they fly into action immediately. Of course, later she was left for hours, ignored while waiting to get into her room, but whatever.

I stayed for a couple of hours, they said they thought she had a pre-stroke and wanted to keep her overnight. I went to work and kept calling the hospital to see if she was in a room yet, when I got there around 5.30p, she finally was. I had to keep asking until they finally fed her, she'd been there since 11a without being given anything, but she finally got a turkey sandwich and like three desserts, so I left.

Tomorrow she's going to have an MRI and a carotid ultrasound and a couple of other things and hopefully I'll be able to take her home tomorrow. It's been a day.

I've gotta tell you, though, I love Facebook. You put on it, this bad thing is happening, and 150 people say to you we love you, we are thinking of you, we are praying for you, and it's just so lovely to have that contact with all these different tendrils of your life.
