Summary: Kevin and Scotty see Michelle after she moved back to the city with her new boyfriend. Based after the last episode so 5.08
She just stood there and knew she couldn’t lie anymore, her fantasy was over. She stood there and did the only thing she could in the situation she shakes her head and said “I can’t”
Scotty just stood there looking at Michelle; trying to see the friend he could always count on, the person that he trusted with carrying his babies.
“You can’t” he said angrily “You can’t” he repeated get more anger with every second that goes by. “Do you actually understand what I just asked you” Scotty asked hoping she might have just misunderstood.
She nodded her head again.
“Michelle, I need you to tell me the truth” Scotty said; he won’t believe it until she actually says the words herself.
Michelle shakes and Steve gets up to comfort her not understanding what was happening. The men came over acting like friends and then treated her like this. He walks over to Michelle and as she shakes more he looks at Scotty and just says “You should be ashamed of yourself, look at what you’re doing to her” Steve tries to calm her down.
Scotty looks at Michelle and for a second he does feel bad but then he looks at Kevin looking at their babies and the anger comes back full force.
Kevin had been in his own little world until he looks at Scotty getting anger; he gets up to side with his husband.
“No, your girlfriend should be ashamed” Scotty yells; the conversation and reaction from all the people involved have caused a crowd of people watching. No one seems to notice though.
“Scotty” Michelle stammers.
“Tell me and your boyfriend the truth” Scotty says harshly; he’s doesn’t think he has been more anger in his entire life.
Steve seems to understand something but gets the wrong idea “Wait a minute, are you the father?” the other three nod their heads. This seems to confirm his assumption “You have the nerve to come over here and yell at her, when you abandoned her when she was pregnant. What for” Steve says waving his hands at Kevin “for this guy”.
Kevin looks at Steve in amusement now and his sarcastic side came out “Michelle, I think your little boyfriend here has the wrong idea, don’t you. Now be a good little girl and tell him what you’ve done” Kevin said smiling; hoping the guy abandon her like the fictional father in her head did.
“Steve, I’m so sorry” Michelle said.
Steve stops her quickly “You have nothing to be sorry for; unlikely that guy” pointing directly at Scotty.
Kevin stepped in to safe his husbands dignity “He has nothing to feel sorry for; she does” getting anger.
“Steve. I told him; I mean them, that I had a miscarriage” she said not explaining the whole situation still. He was such a nice guy; how could she tell him everything she did without him walking out on her.
Steve looked at Scotty and felt confused, so the guy didn’t abandon her but he was still with another guy. I mean they were holding hands when they walked over here; did she find out he was gay and didn’t want the babies near him. That didn’t sound like the Michelle he knew either.
“Okay” Steve said trying to get his thought together in one place but finding it difficult. He looked at Scotty and Kevin’ furious faces “I’m confused though. Aren’t you two a couple; did you just sleep with her to try and see if you were straight or something and she ended up pregnant”.
It was at that point that Kevin decided to take a swing at Steve. Scotty managed to stop him in time “That isn’t going to help, Kevin” Scotty said trying to calm him down “it didn’t work last time” Scotty said trying to shock him; it worked, Kevin took a step back and just looked at Scotty thinking why did he have to bring that up now. Scotty knew he had hurt him “Kevin, we can be anger later” Scotty said calming himself down now “right now we need a level-head, okay” Scotty said and Kevin nodded knowing Scotty was right.
“Michelle, either you tell him or I will” Kevin said calmly; his lawyer side coming out slowly.
Steve looked at Michelle and she knew that there was no getting out of the situation “I was a surrogate for them” Michelle said and saw the shock that vibrated in Steve.
He looked at Kevin and Scotty again and saw not just the fury they had for Michelle but now say the pain that was in their eyes and the way they stood.
He looked back at Michelle “What did you do?” Steve asked slowly knowing there was more to the situation “Why did you do it? Did you think they would be bad parent?” he hoped that there was a reason for her action, there had to be.
“What no” Michelle said “I just didn’t know what I was getting myself into when they asked me to be the surrogate” she said.
“Again a lie” Kevin said “You volunteered to be the surrogate” he said breaking the trace that she and Steve had. Next time I’ll go with my first reaction which was hell no he thought but decided not to say out loud; he didn’t need to hurt Scotty anymore. Anyway if he knew his husband at all he knew that Scotty would be blaming himself, which was wrong, it was Michelle fault, and he thought putting the blame right where it should be.
He was right though; all Scotty could think was it was his entire fault. The cheating was his fault, they lost their babies and it was his fault; he wouldn’t be surprised if Kevin asked for a divorce. He looked at Michelle and Steve and said the only thing he could in the situation “We trusted you” he said sadly; that trust disappeared.
Michelle looked at Scotty and Kevin and just said “I’m sorry”.
“Sorry, you robbed us of our family” Scotty said.
“You ran away with our babies and our money” Kevin said thinking of how much they had fought and saved so they could have their family and she gladly took the money as well.
“I was confused” Michelle said trying to defend her actions.
“Confused, you were confused. So you told us that our babies had died” Scotty said sadly but calmly now that the anger had faded he just felt the lost.
“We’ve gone through hell this year and it was all because we lost our babies” Kevin said knowing the real reason finally for why everything had been so bad this year. Scotty looked at Kevin thinking that they couldn’t blame Michelle for everything but it was when everything had gone bad. They were getting through the accident and even Robert but the miscarriage was the main reason that they grew apart.
Michelle looked at them and realized the pain that she had caused them; she was only thinking of herself up to that point. She knew that they must have gone through pain that was why she didn’t want to talk to Scotty; she might lose her babies. Oh her babies, she loved them so much, she just wanted to go over to them and take them home.
“We should go” Michelle said moving towards.
“Where do you think you’re going?” Kevin said as both Scotty and he moved between the blanket and Michelle.
It was at this point that the crowd of people had drawn the attention of the police. Two officers walked over to the crowd and some people started to move away but others stayed intrigued by the conversation.
“Do we have a problem here?” one of the officers said.
“Yes, these men are harassing my girlfriend” Steve said hoping that the police would get them to leave. Everyone looked at Steve and started speaking at the officers at the same time; even the crowd members were defending Kevin and Scotty or accusing them.
“I’m not going anywhere without my kids” Kevin said; now that he knew they were his, he wasn’t about to leave them anywhere.
“I’m there mother” Michelle said defensively.
“No you’re not, you have no legal right to our kids, right Kevin” Scotty said making sure that he was right. Kevin made sure that everything was covered in the contracted; he was sure that was how Kevin explained it to him.
Kevin was so pleased with Scotty he smiled for a second and then answered him in one word “Yes”.
“Can someone please explain the situation to us?” the other officer asked getting confused.
Kevin and Scotty explained the situation to one officer whose name was Jeffery; he nodded and shakes his head at all the right points. While the other officer Martin talked to Michelle and Steve; they both then talked to the witnesses.
The babies had been sleeping until that point but one woke up crying and the next woke up crying. Michelle went to the babies as did Scotty and Kevin, in the end it was Steve and Kevin who went to check on the babies; while they also tried to keep Scotty and Michelle away from each other.
Kevin and Steve cautiously started to talk to each other.
“I didn’t know” Steve said, wanting to make sure that he knew.
“That okay” Kevin said thinking it was but it wasn’t as well “It actually explains why she hadn't been talking to Scotty or anyone else that we know” Kevin thinks wanting to hit himself; he should have known that something was wrong but had enough things to deal with.
“You know” Steve said “she is a great mother” sounding hopeful, he loved these babies too
Kevin looks at Steve not liking his tone of voice “Let’s get one thing straight. She is not the mother; she will never be the mother” Kevin looked at Michelle “I still don’t understand why she did this, she never told us anything”
Steve looked at Kevin and tried a different method not realizing that Kevin was a lawyer “You know we could take you to court for custody; I’m mean you might be the fathers but she gave birth to Liam and Craig. You think you would win” Steve smiled thinking that the court would majority of the time put the kids with a woman.
He was thinking of the names when his mind caught up to the conversation “You could try” Kevin said calmly and then went into lawyer mode “but not only will we get the kids but I see Michelle in jail as well” feeling happy at the last thought.
They stood as the police officers, Michelle and Scotty came over.
The police officer looked at each other and nodded; knowing that this wasn’t going to be easy. “You guys aren’t going to be able to sort this out yourself” he said hoping that maybe one party would back down but after talking to all he knew that it wasn’t going to happen.
They all shook their heads.
Michelle was the first one to speak “I’m their mother. It’s on their birth certificates” not wanting to lose her babies but also knowing she might.
“That can be changed” Kevin said and then added “So can their names”.
“What is wrong with their names” Michelle said getting anger.
“Nothing, just not what Scotty and I had decided on” Kevin said looking at Scotty; they had only decided about two weeks before the miscarriage on the names.
“Look I think the best idea would be for you all of you to come down the station; we can decide then” Jeffery said trying to diffuse the situation; it would be one of the most complicated cases of his career he thought.
“I’m not letting them out of my sight” Kevin said then Michelle said “Me either” they both turned and looked at each other; scolding each other.
The officers can see the start of another fight on the way “The babies can be transported in the back of our car” he said making sure that they all knew that it wasn’t up for debate “transport the car seats” he said.
Everyone agreed with situation; at least they knew the others couldn’t runaway with the kids.
Once the kids were in the car; Kevin quickly had a thought, he ran up to one of the police officer and had a quick talk. After which the officer nodded his head.
Kevin walked quickly to Scotty “Go in the police car to the station; I’ll meet you there. I won’t be long” Kevin said quickly and kissed Scotty before running to his car and driving off.
Everyone looked shocked but Scotty did as Kevin told him; he knew he would have a good reason for leaving him there, or at least he better had Scotty thought, on the drive to the station.
